[20:03] [Owlhawk] hello [20:03] :D [20:04] How is everyone keeping busy? [20:06] Putting the finishing touces on my podcast thats coming out sunday and scheduling interviews for the next one...working that kind of thing...lol! [20:06] Bad topic or is evryone multitasking? [20:06] Cool Astore! [20:07] :) [20:09] doing the interview in about 10 min so this is just a checkin to see what everyone else is up to.. :D [20:09] Understand that. Glad you dropped in. [20:09] I'm still trying to catalog my books. [20:10] And staying out of hubby's way as he remodels the house [20:11] As soon as the U U church get me ther attendance data for the past 10 yrs I'm going to graph them [20:11] oh dear....I am a completely unapolgetic bibliophile, cataloging all my books would be the work of more time than I have on this earth...lol! Good luck [20:12] I need to do it so I can organize my books and find things when I need them [20:13] A friend of mine has litteraly a complete library of books, he has them organized by I think library of congress numbers, which is supposedly more reliable than the dewey decimal system.... [20:14] I also worked in a library for awhile, I understand the need to be organized if you need to find things. How are you? [20:26] Wet. How are you? [20:26] [Owlhawk] excellent, although they are apparently calling for snow again.... [20:27] I miss snow - - for about ten minutes. [20:27] I'm feeling productive after a day where it was hard to move. I managed to get house chores down and work outside to get ready to set up my Fairy Patch. [20:27] [Owlhawk] I'm sure we can ship you a few tons next winter [20:28] That does sound productive, Maurilee [20:29] Where are you located that you are still getting snow? [20:29] [Owlhawk] southern ontario. we've gotten snow into may in the past....and very rarely even later [20:30] [Owlhawk] every decade or two we have a winter during which houses mysteriously disappear.... [20:30] oh wow! I'm so glad I'm in Jersey where its warming up. There's so much I want to do this spring and summer. Do you like living so far north? [20:31] [Owlhawk] it's where I've always lived. To me, this is normal [20:34] Well as long as you love where you are you can find happiness. xD [20:35] [Owlhawk] I'm told by those who should know, the wife, that cats are happiness. [20:36] I am sure that Blondie is happiness. [20:36] I do love my two kitties, and my puppy [20:36] [Owlhawk] lol [20:39] [Owlhawk] my sister in law got a puppy. the kids are exstatic about the thing [20:40] Kids love puppies! [20:40] [Owlhawk] the cats, they have three, one for each kid, are not as enthusiastic [20:41] Understandable [20:41] It took a long while for my cats to settle around the puppy, the puppy still wants to follow them around and annoy them [20:42] its mostly endearing [20:42] except when you are trying to work on rituals and what not [20:43] I had a CHowChow once that thought anything smaller than him was a baby. He got several bloody noses trying to clean cats. [20:46] oh wow, that's adorable in a way though too [20:47] ChowChows have great personalities. [20:51] I have a pit boxer mix [20:51] She's a powerful beasty [20:51] The boxers and the pit bulls I have known are wonderful animals. [20:52] All three breeds are powerful. [20:56] We have gotten quiet. [20:57] sorry [20:57] I got distracted reading [20:57] I'm working on my initiate training [20:57] I'm trying to finish divination 1 by the end of the month and sadly I'm only in part two [20:57] [Owlhawk] my parents bought a car today. [20:58] [Owlhawk] good luck with that maurilee. [20:59] they didn't have one before? [20:59] I'm gonna need the luck, its stuff I've never thought about and completely out of my element [20:59] Good Luck Maurilee. I am way behind in my studies as well. [21:00] A car is a good thing to have. [21:00] [Owlhawk] They have a VW Passat, which is part of a class action lawsuit relating to the exhaust system. They bought a Chevy Equionox [21:00] [Owlhawk] VW will be buying back their car at the sept 2015 blue book value [21:01] oh wow sounds like a large complication [21:02] [Owlhawk] http://www.theglobeandmail.com/report-on-business/vw-canada-settles-with-drivers-over-diesel-emissions-scandal/article33361734/ [21:02] [Owlhawk] https://www.volkswagenclassaction.com/ [21:05] damn that is out there [21:06] lucky they are comforatble getting a new car [21:06] [Owlhawk] yup. same lawsuit was settled in California last fall [21:06] [Owlhawk] meh, that was never an issue. Dad's pissed off that mom decided on the first one they test drove. [21:10] well that will happen [21:10] so have you beenr eading any good books of late? [21:11] [Owlhawk] I currently have at least 5 books on the go.... [21:11] oh gesh [21:11] which ones? [21:12] [Owlhawk] one Laurel Hamilton, one Glen Cook, two op my kobo, if I can get it working again.... [21:12] [Owlhawk] and a Greek Myth one [21:13] [Owlhawk] I've had as many as 50 books on the go at the same time in the past [21:16] oh wow and I thought I was bad [21:16] though I have a stack of at least fifty I plan on reading [21:17] [Owlhawk] I was an English Lit Major... [21:18] :) I bet you loved it then [21:19] [Owlhawk] it's fairly normal to forget the list of books I'm reading [21:19] I need to get to a used bookstore and look for more of the initiate ones [21:19] I like to buy local when I can [21:22] [Owlhawk] I haven't looked at the initiate's stuff in a while. I likely should, but.... [21:26] there [21:27] 's a lot but its worth it to start slow and steady, at least it has been for me [21:28] [Owlhawk] I'm not unfamiliar with the program. a friend has finished it, and I attended her final working for it. Part of the problem I have with the program is the magic courses. [21:29] I'm doing those later on [21:29] what is holding you back about those [21:30] [Owlhawk] I stopped working formal magic back in the '90's. I simply don't need to use all the frills. And the workings I do , you'll never be able to figure out what happened and where it came from [21:31] [Owlhawk] and you can't prove anything about them. As magic should be [21:32] I don't work much formal magic either [21:32] I hope I don't struggle much with it [21:32] [Owlhawk] If I'm doing magic, I don't need to move from the chair I'm sitting in. Hell, I can do a full ritual without getting up from my chair. [21:32] [Owlhawk] or even moving [21:40] I have done that too [21:40] sometimes its nice to have some of the fluff, but I really only need a candle. I liked the three bowls and a stick ritual in the dedicants manual. I responded with 'uhmmmm....I don't even need the candle. [21:43] [Owlhawk] When I say without getting up from my chair, I mean not moving at all. I can do a full ritual mentally or on the astral [21:44] I've lead a guided meditation in creating an inner temple exactly how you want and need it [21:44] its fun being able to work that way [21:45] and for people who are differently abled, sometimes its necessary [21:45] [Owlhawk] yes. Starhawk's exercises for visualization are excellent prep for it [21:45] [Owlhawk] the inner temple through, isn't always needed. [21:47] how do you do it usually? [21:49] [Owlhawk] I can visualize the whole ritual, including creating sacred space. it's something I've learned over the years. [21:54] well that's really cool [21:54] *** Rovena (rovena@sorcery-bqdiv9.direcpc.com) has quit IRC [Quit:] [21:56] [Owlhawk] like I said, Starhawk's visualization exercises are worth the cost of wading through her book. [21:57] [Owlhawk] that kinda thing is also why I have trouble with magic 1 and magic 2. I simply don't work in a way that can be documented and marked [22:01] A lot seems to be discuss it [22:07] [Owlhawk] for the courses? yes, and I was taught not to discuss the magical workings I engage in. [22:09] that seems like a large struggle [22:09] I personally believe in an open spiritual practice so that I may be a guide for others [22:10] *** beej (beej@sorcery-tpol94.dhcp.embarqhsd.net) has joined #adf [22:11] Howdy [22:21] hello ello [22:22] Ah! So there is someone on. How are you this evening? [22:22] not too bad [22:22] just multitasking working with my initiate pathwork [22:23] not sure where owl went, we were chatting about inner rituals, like during a meditation [22:23] how are you this evening? [22:23] First day back to work after a five day stay-cation. Not too bad, I suppose. [22:25] how come you had a stay-cation? [22:29] I put in for the time at the beginning of the year hoping I could afford to visit my folks for their 50th, but paying on the 'new' vehicle has put a major damper in my funds, so hoe it is. [22:30] Got some much overdue yard work done, and the wood shop rearranged. And slept in... that was nice. [22:31] I'm sorry you couldn't visit with the parents, hopefully you can later this year. [22:31] I'm hoping. So long as I'm still employed. Kinda not so thrilled with my job these days - or rather with the newer boss. [22:35] oh i def feel that [22:35] what is your job? [22:37] that's kind of the crux of my updating a resume.... it's hard to say what is my job. I am a field tech who installs and maintains the survey equipment that reports the TV ratings, as well as the keeping the people happy who agree to provide said ratings by allowing my crap-tastic equipment to be installed into their homes. [22:39] oh yikes [22:40] I'm a housekeeper right now working on base and we are overtaxed because of the hiring freeze [22:42] *** Ashtore (Mibbit@sorcery-46r4fd.ca.comcast.net) has quit IRC [Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client] [22:43] Oi! Overworked sucks, especially on an extended basis. [22:47] yes, but at least I can come home and only have to do what I want [22:47] which right now is working on my initiate path work [22:48] That's always nice. People think that working from home must be an awesome thing.... but coming home doesn't mean much - just another location to work from and crap from the boss about why aren't you answering the phone, etc. [22:51] I actually miss those sorts of days. Even making it home in time to pop in here before everyone leaves is a challenge. [22:52] I def understand that challenge [22:52] I worked from home for over a year and then from a friends home [22:55] It's definitely a challenge. Makes working on personal stuff less... [22:56] what sort of work do you do thru adf? [22:56] immediate? enticing.. maybe, can't think of a word.. less like you want to work on personal projects when your whole doy is working and you get home and work, and then everyone expects you to do other stuff too [22:56] I facilitate Larrea Tridentata Grove, ADF. [22:59] I get people thinking, work on ritual performance, teach ADF concepts etc etc [23:00] at least some of our work can be our passion [23:01] Some days, yes. [23:02] I kind of miss being able to sit back and let someone else do everything, though. [23:12] I would too [23:12] so where is your grove located? [23:13] Las Vegas NV... in the driest desert in the Americas [23:15] You? [23:16] I'm in Jersey on the Joint Base right now [23:16] Home Base is Michigan [23:16] I know a couple of Groves in Michigan [23:16] and work with Red Oak Grove in Jersey [23:16] Ah. There's a couple of groves in NJ. [23:17] It's handy to have so many so close by. The next nearest grove is about 4 hours from us, I think... 6 after that. [23:17] With a whole lot of nothing between [23:17] I would think Vegas would have a lot of druids though, since there are so many people [23:19] It's an incredibly transient town. Lots of folks who show up for a year and then move, or don't know what they want and wander off. There are many pagans here, but covens and groves come and go all the time, either crashing because the iniator has moved or because there isn't enough cohesion among its members (witch war kinda nonsense) [23:20] We also have this weird phenomenon where more than 5 miles drive is "too far" waahh wah [23:21] There's lots of nature here, too. We have more federally protected preserves and land than any other state besides Alaska, but almost no trees. [23:23] damn that's crazy [23:23] I've only ever heard of witch wars [23:23] and it seems like utter nonsense [23:23] It is. Drama crap that I don't much tolerate. [23:23] It's like some folks never outgrew high school or something. [23:24] "she posted that I'm a terrible person! Waaahhh!! Everyone should hate her on my behalf" [23:26] oh, that sort of witch war [23:26] shit people try to drag me into that sort of stuff all the time [23:26] after a hard lesson I quickly caught on when people are trying too and cut ties [23:26] The only time I want to hear about that kind of stuff is when there's a legitimate issue, like someone who pushes his way into a bathroom unwanted... or otherwise is an actual social danger. [23:27] Exactly. It's annoying and counter productive... and really doesn't fly with our grove. [23:28] But some folks just feed on that sort of thing [23:31] the online drama seems to happen everywhere though [23:31] even with ADF [23:32] This is true. People don't know how to write well and often know how to read even less. They project their own feeling and insecurities and assume the worst first. [23:33] I suppose the one advantage our grove has is the we meet weekly in person, so it's harder for crap to spin out of control unaddressed. [23:34] Oh wow [23:34] I wish my grove did [23:34] its usually every six to eight weeks publically and one grove members only meeting between [23:35] Yeah, most groves, especially out east don't seem to meet very often. It makes it hard to develop friendships and that interconnected sense of community. [23:35] And I personally *hate* members only meetings. [23:36] well there are some things that ADF doesn't allow our grove to do publically [23:36] I hate the insiders "us vs. them" mentality it breeds. [23:36] this is the channeling of our deities [23:36] and our joinings are private [23:36] Since when? [23:36] as long as I;ve been a part [23:37] but it came from Issac, so a while [23:37] a lot of our members gather together in friendship that is open to any [23:37] and we have two levels of membership [23:37] I would love to see that particular ruling. They used to do it all the time, well after Isaac was no longer in any official capacity in ADF beyond Emeritus. [23:38] ROG did it a lot, and then we were asked not too [23:38] and there's still a video on the adf site of rog doing it [23:38] I wonder.... [23:38] its just not for public events [23:38] at least not our high days [23:38] Still do the four directional, colored altars? [23:40] BTW, we have three tiers of membership but all of our meetings are public, including membership ceremonies. [23:40] Every grove is different and fairly autonomous, so every set up is a little different. [23:41] nope, Cernunnos asked us to simplify so we just have a center [23:41] Huh. [23:42] even adf has some things for members only [23:42] just look at the website [23:42] you can't see the info on the training programs without a login [23:42] I personally am a fan of that [23:42] Not much. You can buy the Dedicant Manual from Amazon. [23:42] Published on demand. [23:43] I am not. There's no point in having a church whose specific charge is public service, if you're going to hide what you teach. [23:43] That goes the way of Christianity and other cults. [23:44] I can see that point [23:44] def something to chew on [23:44] but not something we can change [23:44] at least in the moment [23:44] We bring a decent amount of weekly donations without the need to force it through membership exclusion [23:45] And everyone from the newest attendee to the oldest member gets to participate. It's a different model that I see more of in the newer groves than the ones prior to 2000 [23:47] There's a nice part of the mystery that I can understand why some of the ritual in my Grove is held to members only. But I can also see why some would like it to be 100% open. [23:48] I've always been disappointed when I finally climbed all the obstacles to get to the mystery stuff held exclusive to the inner circle. [23:50] I wasnt [23:50] with ROG I mean [23:50] but in the past I have been [23:50] what gods do you work with? [23:50] Quite disappointed that ADF restricts access to the orders, too [23:50] grove or personal [23:52] American primarily (especially Santa, Liberty, and Dollar), second is Greek (esp. Hermes, Aphrodite, Ares, and Apollon), third is Irish (esp. Lugh & Cu Chulainn). [23:52] is that personal? [23:52] Grove alternates between the three pantheons, so it's the same [23:53] Except the grove never singles out one particular deity or being over another.... all the pantheon's members are on the table for any given rite. [23:53] oh cool! I've not seen the american used like that but intrigued [23:54] Our upcoming ritual in may will be to Dollar. It should be interesting, since she doesn't have any formal worship established in the more pagan concepts. [23:54] She gets Her fair share of Americans worshiping her, but not in our formal style. [23:55] I look forward to reading more about that [23:55] but I need to head to bed [23:55] early work morning [23:55] Thanks for the chat! Have a good night. Say hello to ROG for me. It's been a very long time since I've seen or celebrated with them [23:56] nice chatting! who should I say its from [23:56] beej? [23:56] Beej. They all know who that is (or the older ones do) [23:56] :D [23:57] okay [23:57] will do [23:57] I'll try to remember to do a write up on Dollar. [23:57] night [23:57] I'll try and be on next week [23:57] or the following [23:57] Awesome! [23:57] this late is pretty common for me unless everyone else has signed off [23:57] I try to go to bed by midnight on work nights, and that's three min away :) [23:58] Perfect. I'm pacific time, so most are already signed off when I get home [23:58] I will be on the 25th, next week is an event [23:58] Sleep well!
