[19:46] I'm window bouncing at the moment and making dinner. [19:47] No problem. It is still early. [19:47] Multitasking is common. [19:47] Dinner is important [19:47] I gathered that too...lol. [19:47] Multitasking is never ending with 3 kids. :) [19:48] Be back in just a moment. I need to put on the last part of dinner. [19:57] [Owlhawk] hello [19:58] Hello [19:59] How are you tonight? [19:59] [Owlhawk] excellent. Just finished Valentine's dinner with Blondie. She's still working oni t and sipping away on her Kettle Ridge Rose. [20:00] Cool! [20:00] Hubby put a new bookcase together for me so I am getting books out of storage. [20:00] [Owlhawk] awesome! [20:01] Ok, I'm back but still mostly bouncing. [20:01] [Owlhawk] I'm going to be building her an elevated garden bed at the end of the deck so that it's high enough that she doesn't have to bend very much, as that is becoming problematic. That's her valentine's day gift, along with the wine [20:01] We no longer have a protogrove ---we're a grove [20:02] [Owlhawk] AWESOME!!! Congratulations [20:02] [Owlhawk] !!!. Congratulations!!! [20:03] Thanks. [20:05] [Owlhawk] You've worked hard to get to this point [20:05] [Owlhawk] Next, getting a Priest in the Grove [20:05] Maybe but that is partly in the hands of others [20:06] [Owlhawk] lol. You would make a fantastic Priestess. [20:06] It sounds like really exciting times in your world. Congratulations. [20:07] Thanks Sister-Spiral. [20:08] I am working on the GSP and IP. That should better prepare me for CLergy [20:09] I feel like a bad mentor, though. [20:09] I'm super new to ADF, and I don't think I've been in a chatroom in quite a long time, so I'll apologize in advance for any awkwardness. [20:09] What is the GSP and the IP? [20:09] [Owlhawk] General Study Program [20:10] [Owlhawk] Initiates Program. [20:10] NO problem. We are here to make everyone comfortable. [20:10] [Owlhawk] Both of them come after the Dedicant's Program, also known as the DP [20:11] Oh, thank you for explaining. I hear the DP is quite challenging. [20:11] It depends on the person. Some find it easy others find it challenging [20:11] THe documentation is probably the hardes part for most [20:12] [Owlhawk] That depends how much experience you have as a practicing Pagan. Two of the requirements take 5 months and one year respectively [20:12] [Owlhawk] I found those two the most challenging [20:12] Good to know. I suppose a lot of study programs can be that way for people depending on how they tick. [20:13] Oh, ok. I am really interested in the DP. [20:13] There are lots of tools to help you with the program from rubrics to study buddies to mentors. [20:15] We even answer questions here [20:15] Excellent. I've been listening a bit to Part the Mists podcast over the last couple of days and they recently talked a bit about the DP. I think I might listen to that again too. [20:16] I'll keep that in mind once I get started. [20:16] [Owlhawk] did you find the podcast helped you? I've never listened to it [20:16] There is a DP email list and Facebook group as well. [20:17] It was sort of general, but I have started the program yet, so general works for now. I'll definitely be looking at the email list and FB group once I get started. [20:20] Do you have a hearth culture that you are leaning towards? [20:22] Not yet, thought I do tend to really be drawn in the directions of my ancestors, which would in this case be either Irish or Norse/Swedish [20:24] That is a popular combo. A course the Norse mixed with the Celts a lot. [20:24] My heritage pretty well covers most of North Western Europe and two Native American cultures. [20:26] You are lucky to know the Native American cultures you come from. So many, like my hubby, don't have enough info to trace their Native American side. [20:27] *** Alusa (Alusa@sorcery-77h2ak.skt2ca.sbcglobal.net) has joined #adf [20:28] Well, a lot of what I have is word of mouth and family gossip as far as the cultures. I do know that at least one side hid their heritage for a lot of years and never registered. The other side, well, my great grandmother was a traveler and died really young. No one really kept documentation on her side either. [20:29] That actually is the deciding factor for me to not seek out a Native American traditional spiritual path. I don't really have the right to ask anyone to teach me something I can't prove is mine by blood. [20:30] *** Alusa_ (Alusa@sorcery-77h2ak.skt2ca.sbcglobal.net) has quit IRC [Ping timeout: 121 seconds] [20:30] That is the way it usually is. We have a photo of his great grandmother and she is clearly Native American but the small town his family settled in treated her as white and we have no idea as to her original name or culture. [20:33] So Sister, do you have any questions or topic that you would like to explore? [20:34] That's how it was for our family, very much. I can trace back to a point and then the whole thing just drops off with one person. [20:35] At this point, I'm not sure that I don't have questions...because I haven't completely formulated them in my head. [20:35] Be right back! [20:35] Undertand that. [20:38] I do know that I feel really intuitively drawn to ADF right now. Part of that really is about the structure for me. It is also about learning some group leadership skills. [20:38] There isn't and ADF group closer than 3 hours from me right now. [20:39] ADF definitely gives one struture. [20:39] Bummer. [20:39] What part of the country are you in? [20:40] West Central Wisconsin. The closest group for me is over in Minnesota. [20:40] [Owlhawk] That sucks, but ADF can be a solitary path. [20:41] It will have to be most of the time for me at this point. Though it might be what I've also been looking for, for my kids. [20:41] When hubby and I joined there was no group in our state, either. That was in 2005 and 11 yrs later we are the only grove in the state. [20:41] What state are you in? [20:42] [Owlhawk] I'm a solitary and it's worked very well for me, I'm even the Vice Regional Druid for my Region. [20:42] There is a parenting group that might be able to help you with ideas [20:42] I will definitely be looking at that. Owlhawk, what does the Vice Regional Druid do? [20:45] It depends partially on what the Regional Druid needs done. [20:45] Fair enough. [20:45] [Owlhawk] Mostly back up the Regional Druid when they need it. For instance My RD is in Ottawa, So Toronto is difficulte for her to get to. I'm about 2 or 3 hours away, so it's easy for me to get there, so IU visited Dancing Lights Grove there, instead of her [20:45] I'll the Deputy Regional Druid for the Central Region. Our Regional Druid is in Nebraska and I am in Louisiana [20:46] So would either of you be covering my area of the country as part of your Regions? [20:47] [Owlhawk] I'm Canadian... [20:47] [Owlhawk] I'm part of Eastern Canada Region [20:47] I'm happy to have Canada adopt Wisconsin [20:47] :P [20:48] [Owlhawk] LMAO, but you would need to shoot your governer!@ [20:48] I'm pretty ok with that too, but I'm probably a terrible shot. [20:48] [Owlhawk] lol [20:49] lol [20:49] I know some ex-snipers [20:50] [Owlhawk] please keep in mind that this chat is logged.... [20:51] All in dark humor! [20:51] If it is too dark, light a candle or better yet a bonfire [20:51] [Owlhawk] plausible deniablity if your friend [20:51] No actual lame excuses for politicians were plotted against in this chat! [20:51] [Owlhawk] if = is [20:52] Yes, yes it is...and now we have a disclaimer! [20:53] There is a big difference between what one could do and what one would do. [20:53] [Owlhawk] And that was the goal Spiral [20:53] lol of course [20:54] Worked with a police department at a state college. Our chief would have us plot how to break in and steal stuff so we could better protect it. [20:54] [Owlhawk] lol [20:59] I think I am out of both regions. If I am correct, there's maybe an Upper Midwest Region. [21:01] Sounds about right [21:03] [Owlhawk] https://www.adf.org/members/org/regions.html [21:04] Thank you! [21:05] [Owlhawk] no problem. But I'm not sure who you regional druid is [21:09] I think it is Rev Amy Castner according to the most recent report filed. [21:10] [Owlhawk] I deleted most of those so..... [21:10] Thank you. I'll definitely look into it further. [21:11] [Owlhawk] let either of us know if you need some help. We would be happy to assist. [21:11] [Owlhawk] We also give DP advice on occasion [21:11] I have to get my membership paid and what not so I can dig in deeper with all of this, and that's just finances keeping me back. :) [21:12] You can apply for compassionate membership [21:12] I really appreciate your willingness to help. [21:12] I am considering that actually. [21:13] [Owlhawk] do you know how to apply for it? [21:14] Go to the Compassionate Membership and contact the appropriate person to explain why I am asking for a Compassionate Membership? [21:15] The Members Advocate? [21:15] [Owlhawk] https://www.adf.org/joining/compassionate-membership.html [21:15] Thank you! [21:15] [Owlhawk] no problem. it`s something I`ve thought about once or twice myself given my wife`s health [21:17] I have a hard time with asking for compassion in that way for myself. [21:18] [Owlhawk] each individual`s circumstances are unique [21:19] [Owlhawk] I make sure to set aside enough over the year to pay for my membership each fall [21:19] That's what I would do too. It really isn't so much. [21:20] Just right now it's a little bit challenging in the finance department. [21:21] [Owlhawk] lol, I`m recovering from surgery so I totally understand. Talk to the MA and give it some thought. The MA can address far better the we can [21:21] We have all been there before. [21:22] Thank you. I will. [21:33] But here one can dress comfortably and no one knows [21:34] yes, very true! [21:34] [Owlhawk] if we were to do this live, with video, then it would likely be on Google since there's a channel already set uop [21:34] [Owlhawk] up [21:34] The Three Cranes (?) Grove does it [21:35] [Owlhawk] they do, but there is also a channel set up on the google version of facebook as well [21:35] i was able to watch but didn't have skype [21:35] oh..this is fine, I'm in my jammies [21:35] [Owlhawk] uhmmm..... you can instal Skype [21:36] ican now..but at the time i only had my andriod phone [21:37] how long have you been with ADF? Good point..always changing, learning [21:44] i live 4hrs away from the nearest Grove in Tucsun..think i am destined to be a solitary! [21:44] You can always start your own group [21:45] I have been thinking of that, i am sure I'm not the only one around here that would appreciate a grou [21:46] *group [21:46] If you start with a study group you won't have any reports to do. [21:46] sorry this is a small screen on my kindle [21:46] Good idea [21:47] Here is my excuse -- eh, I mean explanation. I am an excellent speller but a lousy typist. [21:47] and avertise..how? [21:48] Witchvox is a good place to spread the word about groups in the pagan community. [21:48] Depends on what you have available to you. We used Witchvox [21:48] Next time I'll get on my lap top [21:48] That's how I first heard about ADF....many years ago. :) [21:48] If there is a New age or a Craft shop around, they are good. [21:49] Yes, one or two..old hippie town here 😄 [21:49] oh, on Windows or a metaphysical dtore? [21:49] One of the shops might have a classroom you can use. [21:50] You are an organised thinker! [21:50] [Owlhawk] facebook is also a possiblity [21:50] No, I have been doing this for a long time. [21:50] [Owlhawk] lol [21:51] I am disappointed in adf on facebook, i don't see much happening there..i rejoined fb for adf [21:51] Which groups have you been looking at? [21:52] there is a pagan following on instagram, but no adf [21:53] Solitary..brighid is good, they are always posing..looking for the norse group without luck [21:53] Most Regions have a FAcebook group and there is ADF-Discussion, ADF-Solitary, ADF-DP, [21:54] Maybe I need to do more exploring [21:54] [Owlhawk] always a gppd idea [21:54] [Owlhawk] good... [21:54] I think there is one. [21:55] ADF Heathenry [21:55] ah, that's the word i didn't put in [21:55] it's an avalon/arthurian group?
