[20:00] Yes, it is. [20:02] I may get to be a guest speaker at Southern Arkansas University this spring. THey asked if I was interested. Waiting for them to schedule it. [20:03] [Owlhawk] heck, you're doing enough outreach to cover both of us! THANKS!!! [20:03] That would be great as well. [20:04] I am looking forward to it. So how is everyone tonight? [20:06] Pretty good. It's is the first night I have been home since last week really. Was out of town for the Mother Grove meeting over the weekend. [20:07] Heard about the Cards Against Humanity card game. My protogrove plays that regularly. [20:07] [Owlhawk] how did that go? [20:09] I thought it went well. And yes card against humanity was fun. [20:10] We got a lot of good work done and got to know each other a bit better which is always a plus. [20:11] KNowing each others does make working together easier. [20:11] [Owlhawk] excellent. And I've never played cards against humanity [20:11] Everyone should play at least once. It is quite the experience. [20:12] We will have to scale back our play of it because we have a new member who is uncomfortable with the language [20:12] *** JasonM (AndChat5691@sorcery-nc8vf1.ma.comcast.net) has joined #adf [20:12] Hello Jason [20:13] [Owlhawk] frankly, at this point I'm afraid to play it [20:13] Evening all. [20:25] [Owlhawk] It's also posted to the main 4 facebook groups most weeks. [20:25] [Owlhawk] I occasionally forget...... [20:25] how is everyone? [20:25] My spell check keeps "helping" me with your name Rovena sorry. [20:26] Understand that. No problem, Rowena was my mother [20:26] Interesting [20:26] I was first born after 9 years of marriage so I am named after both parents [20:27] Time is my main issue with reminders...I'm to busy outside right now, to check my electronic stuff inside. So, mornings with coffee... and about this time is about all I get- and I still have a lot to do yet before the supposed storm hits [20:28] rovena... I had a an aunt named Rowena. She passed when she was six. eldest of four kids. [20:28] And to think the idea of a strict calendar tied to the seasons was ment to make time management easier. [20:29] Me to....I have an exterior barn wall to put up. Took the old wood off and then got hit with crappy weather and busy life. [20:29] Too [20:31] I just finished the winter coop for my birds... well done just enough. We just did the chicken round up of chickens, ducks and geese. It supposed to get down to -45 with the wind chill, I think tomorrow. [20:31] Drinking cooffe, full stomach and warming up right now..lol [20:31] coffee [20:32] Where are you from Randy? [20:32] I can't do cold anymore. I am dreading it getting into the teens on Thursday [20:33] Westcliffe, Colorado. About 50 miles west of Pueblo. We are at 9200 feet/ 3000 meters? [20:33] i used to be in California, but i moved to PA about two months ago...I've been having to get used to cold again :/ [20:34] I'm with you rovena. I hate the cold I just really like living in New England. [20:34] We have been unseasonably warm here in the 20's and 30's. I am in PA. Where in PA are you Trent? [20:34] I'm mostly used to the cold... the wind on the other hand... it can get so strong, that it sucks the air out of your lungs! [20:35] [Owlhawk] Cold? -20 means it's time to do up your coat! Celicious.... [20:35] I like the cold but my chickens would be dead at -45. [20:35] Most things are dead at - 45 [20:36] Heat lamp running. I have to go back out in a few, and work on drafts some. [20:37] Birds will be locked up for a few days, so they know where their new home is. [20:37] It seams we talk about the weather a lot here. [20:37] I can't run a heat lamp because extreme cold cuts the power were I live and if your chickens are use to heat they then can't take the cold when there is no power. [20:38] I'm in Yardley, it's north of Philadelphia [20:38] lol... its a late winter. [20:38] If you have a better topic, throw it on the table [20:39] What are people doing for yule? [20:39] Topic... divination: Scrying inparticular [20:39] What about scrying? [20:40] Ooh like that one [20:40] [Owlhawk] Yule? hoping I don't have to dig out my front door. [20:40] my local grove is having a campout at a YMCA park [20:40] [Owlhawk] scrying>? unpredicatable. be very cautious [20:41] We are doing a brand new theme. We are honoring Mani...the Moon in Norse tradition. [20:41] Pigeon {fielder) posted an experience with scrying. I'm aware of it, but don't know much about it. Any credible resources out there? [20:41] [Owlhawk] not that I'm aware of. [20:42] [Owlhawk] it's an area that is difficult to work in. one is constantly fighting with ones own mind as to what one saw or thought one saw [20:42] That is interesting, Carrion. [20:42] I think divination and scrying are two different topics [20:42] Very true, Owlhawk. [20:43] [Owlhawk] actually, they are not. Scrying is a part of [20:43] [Owlhawk] Divination [20:43] We are reenacting Mani being chased by Hari. [20:43] [Owlhawk] not a story I'm familar with [20:43] Me either [20:44] [Owlhawk] I have the excuse of being Hellenic...your excuse? [20:44] While the rest of the officiants perform the ritual. So we really have two concurrent rituals taking place. [20:45] Scrying> I always looked at divination as more of a "past, present, future"... not so much set in stone, as much as a direction of events. [20:45] That takes some manpower. [20:45] We only have three people to work with. [20:45] Celtic, know very few norse stories [20:45] [Owlhawk] And scrying is one method of doing that Randy [20:46] Scrying seems to be more about "spirit communication conjuring"... at least thats been my uneducated take on it [20:46] It is the lore concerning the moon being chased by a wolf representing chaos. He is trying to eat the moon. [20:46] [Owlhawk] also, technique is different from results. sometimes the skills of one section of lore are used in another section. [20:46] I view scrying as more the state of current events / paths. Divination as possibilities / clues. [20:47] [Owlhawk] That said, scrying is definitly is part of divination. [20:47] We are running both rituals with eight [20:47] [Owlhawk] The question then becomes, what is divination..... [20:47] BRB, story time. [20:49] [Owlhawk] That sounds awesome Carrion. I wish I could be there to witness and participate [20:50] Divination... from Webster online... the art or practice that seeks to foresee or foretell future events or discover hidden knowledge usually by the interpretation of omens or by the aid of supernatural powers [20:50] Thats the academic take. Is there a spiritual depthness? [20:51] [Owlhawk] what do you think? [20:51] Thinking... [20:52] I think there is a difference between divination and seership [20:52] According to Webster, Scring would be a sort of divination. [20:53] [Owlhawk] just because it's an awesome rendition from the greatest concert I ever saw.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R9ecR5b8yc4 [20:53] [Owlhawk] Yup. the techniques used are key here. you, in scrying, are looking into what the future will be....hence divination [20:54] [Owlhawk] Carrion, I would say that is a matter of degree and skill. not difference [20:54] Divination as I know it, (done with Runes) I suppose would be similar to scrying, as the two bridge to the supernatural. [20:54] I would put scrying under seership I think. [20:54] [Owlhawk] Carrion, how do you define both divination and seership? [20:55] [Owlhawk] To my thinking, a Seer is practicing divination. [20:55] Please define "Seer". I never really concidered it before [20:56] Webster has its definition as: 1 : one that sees 2 a : one that predicts events or developmentsb : a person credited with extraordinary moral and spiritual insight 3 : one that practices divination especially by concentrating on a glass or crystal globe [20:59] So... I thinking with the webster definition, that a Seer is a person with an "inate ability", versus someone like me, who would require tools and focus, etc... [20:59] [Owlhawk] to me a Seer is someone that practices divination. [21:00] So, I'm a Seer, your a Seer, anyone who practices divination is a Seer. Works for me. [21:00] [Owlhawk] well, it also suggests a certain level of ability as well. [21:02] Yes, of course. I was just being overly simplistic. [21:03] A diviner is someone who utilizes a symbol set for divination. It has set meanings that anyone can learn and get to be good at. [21:04] Seership to me might utilize a symbol set or not and requires some natural ability. [21:05] [Owlhawk] interesting view Carrion. I hadn't thought of that difference. [21:05] So, a Seer would have an Innate Ability? ...part of their "DNA"? [21:05] So not all diviners are seers, but most if not all seers are diviners also. [21:05] I am a diviner and hubby is a seer [21:07] Sight seems to run in families and it seems to appear more frequently in females. [21:07] [Owlhawk] I've sometimes wondered it males suppress it [21:07] Interesting... [21:07] [Owlhawk] more then females. [21:08] knowing the future even for a few seconds can suck hard [21:09] I used to have premonitions as a youth. I consciously stopped it in my youth. [21:10] Agreed....this gift is both a blessing and curse. [21:10] Any hints on starting up again? [21:10] I "dabble" with runes (3 rune read) once in awhile. [21:11] I really only use divination for omens during rights. [21:11] It really intimidates me. [21:12] I presented a post on Spiorei SiG facebook about it, in regards to dice games [21:12] Practice divination in a ritual setting then move to techniques like scrying in fire or a bowl or other symbol free technique. [21:12] My experience that is [21:13] Do lots of meditation and trance work...especially trance journey work. [21:13] [Owlhawk] I'll just echo Carrion's statements here. [21:13] And learn to trust what you feel, see and hear or sense. [21:13] I have a black tigers eye ball intended for scrying on my alter. I keep it covered thing freaks me out. [21:13] [Owlhawk] and do the work. [21:14] [Owlhawk] practice, practice, parctice [21:14] I "feel" that I "possibly should" open it again... but, I would rather work with someone credible, than xyz Zelda the palm reader type...lol [21:15] I an do meditation but trance work is problematic for me [21:15] Meditation has been really hard for me. [21:17] I struggled for years with both. [21:17] [Owlhawk] Keep working on the meditation. I have found that it leads into trance work [21:17] A simple technique is to get a a jar, fill it with water, glitter and glitter glue. Shake it up and focus on the glitter as it settles out [21:17] [Owlhawk] but you need to work on it [21:17] I like that Rovena [21:17] [Owlhawk] wife says that 's what they use for children's time out now [21:18] I did my only successful meditation before I came back from Iraq. I'm surprised I did it at all. Finding my Spirit guide, it was. I got advice from a lady in Virginia that really helped a lot- for an online personality. Her website was Pagans Path. [21:19] I think she practices Dianic Wicca? [21:19] Blondie is right. Using it for time out helps the kids control their behavior via meditation [21:19] [Owlhawk] Randy, it took me almost twenty years to learn to actually meditate. give yourself some time and patience with yourselfr. [21:19] I might try the jar technique. [21:20] Quiet space is a bit hard to find for me. I need to set up a place outdoors. Its too darn cold though!...lol [21:20] Let me find the directions and I will send them to you [21:21] Thanks [21:21] You have my email? [21:22] [Owlhawk] if you can meditate, then place matters not [21:23] I have a spot picked I want to develop more into an outdoor sacred space. Its just the wrong time of the year right now. Its on the property in a spot where I feel the Nature Kin's presence [21:25] If space matters not... I guess my "husband hearing" is pretty well developed...lol [21:25] Hubby has chronic pain and uses meditation to get through it [21:26] Thats some strong meditation skills. [21:26] [Owlhawk] which develop via practice. [21:27] He is not allowed medication except for new injuries so he has to do something [21:27] I do ok in private. To paranoid to focus on a public train. [21:27] [Owlhawk] that's something to work on then [21:27] Jason... I get the whole "hyper vigilance thing". [21:27] [Owlhawk] one meditation I use is to become aware of all the sound around me. there's more to it then that, but that's the beginning [21:29] I'm a bit hyperaware already. ADHD and dyslexic. [21:29] I already hear everything on the train. Like it or not. [21:29] I think by experience and training, awarenss of sound is perhaps, a little too developed. (except where wifey is concerned...lol) [21:30] Trance and meditation can both be really effective with pain. I have had our patience surgery three times using only trance . [21:30] Out patient that should have said [21:30] [Owlhawk] I also, am ADHD. Practice! [21:31] Agreed, Owlhawk. [21:32] So... I guess I had better start soon. My Dedicants oath is on the 17th- Winter Soltice. [21:32] It does help. [21:32] Yep the sooner the better [21:33] ok.... [21:33] [Owlhawk] I'm impressed that you found a doctor willing to go along with that Carrion. [21:34] [Owlhawk] And Randy, timing is up to you. Time it according to your needs and experience. [21:34] How would one deal with ghosts/ memories tragic events and such? [21:34] A lot of doctors are willing to augment with "alternative" therapy. [21:34] [Owlhawk] not up here..... [21:34] those things invade, and REALLY distract me hard. [21:35] That's a shame. [21:35] Because of my allergies to medication it was not that hard. The hospital's hate it. [21:35] Even the VA is using things like meditation and hypnosis. [21:36] I am aware of the VA techniques... been in patient enough times. (Gomez: I feel much better now...) [21:37] I know it's not used in public with ADF but when the oggaly boogallys start poking at the edges I fall back to circles and wards. [21:37] Yoga Nundri seemed to be the only thing that seemed to help, but again- the proverbial ghosts and memories [21:37] Yeah my dad is a ward of the VA they do great things. [21:38] Yoga Nundri (sp) helps...I feel relaxed afterwards, but it really drains me... if that makes any sense? [21:38] Trauma issues I believe are the number one reason people struggle with meditation and trance. Things like PTSD really make it difficult, but not impossible. [21:39] Yep [21:39] In the long run trance and meditation actually really help. [21:40] [Owlhawk] for me it's focus issues [21:40] add to it, TBI. I was diagnosed with it before the advanced screening/ testing. [21:40] [Owlhawk] which come from my adhd. there's a reason it took me more then 20 years to learnt o medidate [21:40] a pair of 122mm mortar rounds, set as an IED initiated that [21:41] My mom started me on meditation when I was a kid. As long as I have some quiet I do pretty well. [21:41] I hear ya Owlhawk. TBI and PTSD issues come from other things to, not just combat. [21:42] Damn randy, sorry for that. Good on you for doing the work. So many don't. [21:42] Very true [21:43] [Owlhawk] I started learning wicca, which meant lessons in mediation, in 1991...it wasnt' untill I finished my DP 3 years ago, I think it was, that I learned to meditate. So don't give up. the gods reward effort! [21:44] I made an oath to my wife before going to Iraq, that if I came back "messed up", I was to get help. Period! She didn't want to experience what she went through growing up with her dad (3 tours vietnam, Silver Star, Purple Heart.) [21:44] [Owlhawk] HAIL Randy!!! [21:45] [Owlhawk] That's an adult oath that'm honoured to witness [21:45] [Owlhawk] ! [21:45] I've been proactive, because of my oath. Its been 10 years now. [21:45] [Owlhawk] And I hate witnessing oaths.......... [21:45] Good man Randy. [21:45] Thanks guys! [21:46] I still have a hard time, but I'm noticing that I'm copeing better. [21:57] Oh well that sounds like fun [21:57] Had to walk to a nearby gas station where an elderly man called my supervisor who came 20 minutes later and let me back in [21:58] THe fun part was slipping in the mud and splpatting on the ground. Covered myself with mud [21:58] Aren't we supposed to soak up the earth?
