[20:03] [Owlhawk] Hello
[20:03] <Rovena> How are you tonight?
[20:03] <Raggiedmon> Ello
[20:03] <Rovena> Hello Raggierdmon
[20:03] [Owlhawk] Excellent, we have power tonight!
[20:04] <Rovena> Power is a good thing
[20:04] *** Alusa_ (Alusa@sorcery-v9g46c.skt2ca.sbcglobal.net) has quit IRC [Ping timeout: 121 seconds]
[20:04] [Owlhawk] Yes it is
[20:06] <Rovena> How are you tonight, Raggiedmon?
[20:06] <Raggiedmon> Alright
[20:06] <Raggiedmon> Life is going both good an sucky
[20:06] <Rovena> It usually does.
[20:10] <Rovena> So, what is on people's minds tonight?
[20:13] <Raggiedmon> Habbits, mis perceptions, evil acts, good acts, defenses, health
[20:15] <Rovena> Okay, where do you to begin?
[20:15] <Raggiedmon> ?
[20:23] [Owlhawk] The same place we begin every night Pinky, how to take over the world!
[20:23] <Duette> Hi everyone
[20:23] [Owlhawk] hello
[20:24] <Rovena> How is Duette tonight?
[20:25] <Duette> I'm doing OK; how are you, Rovena?
[20:25] <Rovena> Enjoying the cool weather
[20:26] <Duette> Question: is this a general ADF chat or one just for Dedicants? I got the link for this through the ADF Dedicants mailing list.
[20:26] <Duette> Mmm, cool weather. Lots of leaves for my compost.
[20:27] <Rovena> It is for everyone. I can only post to one list at a time
[20:27] [Owlhawk] if you check the facebook groups, it's usually posted on the four main facebook groups
[20:28] <Duette> I'm not on facebook.
[20:29] <Duette> Anybody do anything fun for the equinox?
[20:31] <Rovena> We had our protogrove ritual last Saturday. Got to do it outside.
[20:31] <Rovena> Otherwise, we are burning tree limbs that have fallen over the summer
[20:31] <Duette> *listens*
[20:32] [Owlhawk] I'm hoping I can finally have a fire this weekend. we spent most of the summer in drought conditions
[20:34] <Duette> We were fortunate to have about enough rain where I live (New England). Whereabouts are you, Owlhawk?
[20:37] [Owlhawk] Southern Ontario, bottom of Georgian Bay.
[20:37] <Rovena> THis is the first year where we weren't in a drought. Maybe enough rain to get color on the fall leaves
[20:39] <Duette> Nods.
[20:39] [Owlhawk] we were so dry in July and August that there was a fire ban in place for both months.
[20:40] <Duette> Has the drought let up now?
[20:41] [Owlhawk] Oh yes....poured rain for the last two or three days. It let up towards the end of August
[20:42] <Duette> That's good.
[20:43] <Duette> Since I'm new here, I don't know what people usually talk about. Are there usual topics of conversation?
[20:44] [Owlhawk] Plans to take over the world, the inevitiability of the Maple Leafs winnig the Stanley Cup, what ever else comes up...
[20:45] <Rovena> Questions about study programs, festival info, ritual ideas
[20:47] <Rovena> cats
[20:47] <Duette> Hrm... well, so far I've been plowing through the DP program on my own. As a solitary, I've had to write a lot of my own rituals to keep up with that aspect of the DP requirements. It's been fun, but it's kept me busy enough I haven't had time to work on a lot of the other requirements. If I turn in my writings and the holidays aren't the most recent ones,
[20:48] <Duette> will that be a problem as long as eight holidays were celebrated in order in the same year?
[20:48] <Duette> LOL, cats! Cats are awesome. I have one.
[20:49] <Duette> Re the DP, I'm just feeling like I'm not going to have the other requirements completed by the time I make it through the year.
[20:49] <Rovena> NO problem at all. Many people have there work cover several years
[20:50] <Duette> Yay! Whew!
[20:50] <Rovena> It takes a minimum of 1 year to do the DP but there is no time limit
[20:50] [Owlhawk] So long as the wheel of the year rituals are within the same calendar year shouldn't be an issue
[20:50] *** alacerdaj (Mibbit@sorcery-ajs.d9i.125.179.IP) has joined #adf
[20:51] <Rovena> ALso the mental discipline has to be at least 5 months
[20:51] <Rovena> Hello alacerdaj
[20:51] [Owlhawk] that's the tough one
[20:51] <Duette> Calendar year? Hrm, I think I started at Yule. Oh well, if I have to throw in a few extra ritual write-ups, that's not the end of the world.
[20:51] <alacerdaj> Hello
[20:51] <Rovena> You can start wherever you want to
[20:51] [Owlhawk] remember, only 4 of them need to be ADF style ritual
[20:51] <Duette> Yes, I'm thinking of doing something with chanting for the mental discipline part.
[20:52] <Duette> Good reminder; thank you, Owlhawk.
[20:52] <Rovena> You are allowed to try different methods and review how they worked for you.
[20:52] <Rovena> You don't have to succeed merely to document your attempts
[20:52] <Duette> waves hello to Alacerdaj
[20:53] <alacerdaj> This is my first participation here.
[20:53] <Duette> Me too. :)
[20:53] [Owlhawk] Then welcome to you both, and remember, every tuesday, same time
[20:54] <alacerdaj> Thank you, Owlhawk
[20:55] [Owlhawk] Thank you for coming
[20:55] <Duette> Indeed, thank you. It's nice to have a spot to connect with other Druids.
[20:56] <Rovena> Yes, it is
[20:57] <alacerdaj> In general, how many people come here every Tuesday?
[20:57] <Duette> I was also curious about that.
[20:57] <Rovena> It varies greatly
[20:58] <Rovena> Summer tends to be quiet so we are just building up again
[20:59] <Rovena> Duette, you know that there are rituals on the ADF website you can use or get ideas from
[21:00] <Duette> Oh, yes, I've been using parts of them in my rituals (and keeping a bibliography of my sources, too, of course). They've been very helpful. Usually what I end up with is a sort of collage
[21:00] <Duette> Though it does have some of my own original writing in it.
[21:00] <Rovena> Cool
[21:01] <Duette> :)
[21:02] <Duette> Alacerdaj, are you working on the DP too?
[21:02] <Duette> Just wondering since I found the chat by joining the DP discussion list.
[21:03] <alacerdaj> Yes, but I am in the beginning.
[21:03] <Duette> Cool. What part are you working on?
[21:03] <alacerdaj> I have restarted many times. :s
[21:04] <Rovena> Rewmember you do have to start over just start working again
[21:04] <alacerdaj> I am from Brazil. So please forgive my English mistakes.
[21:04] <Rovena> You can use whatever you have already completed
[21:05] <Rovena> Darling, you English is much better than my Spanish or Portuguese would be
[21:05] <alacerdaj> :D
[21:05] <Duette> I haven't seen you make any English mistakes here, Alacerdaj. I would have guessed you were a native speaker.
[21:06] <Duette> (Of English, that is)
[21:08] <alacerdaj> Well, I love ADF and Isaac's vision about it and the future of paganism.
[21:08] <Rovena> Yes, I share that feeling
[21:09] <Duette> Me too. What are your favorite things about ADF?
[21:10] <alacerdaj> I am trying to study and learning about ADF, paganism etc. It's all new to me.
[21:10] <Rovena> You are not alone in that. This is a good place to ask questions and ecplore ideas
[21:11] <Rovena> ecplore = explore
[21:11] <Rovena> I am a perfect speller but a lousy typist
[21:11] <alacerdaj> Here in Brazil it's rare to see people involved in this ideas.
[21:12] <Rovena> I imagine to are where we were back in the 60s in regard to paganism
[21:12] <alacerdaj> Is it rare in USA? Is there prejudice about this?
[21:13] <Duette> I would say Paganism in the USA is unusual but not unheard of. There is some prejudice, but not as much as there was twenty years ago.
[21:14] <Duette> In the nineties, people would think (wrongly!) that I was into devil worship, because I wore a pentagram. Now, people are more likely to assume that I'm Jewish.
[21:14] <Rovena> It depends on where you are in the country
[21:14] <Duette> Still wrong, heh, but they're less scared.
[21:14] <Duette> Yes, I agree with Rowena.
[21:14] <Duette> It does depend very much on where you are.
[21:14] <Rovena> In New York they hold rituals in Central Park but here in the Deep South we have be pick our locations carefully
[21:15] <Duette> Oh, I meant to say Rovena. Sorry, I guess I'm not a good typist tonight either. :)
[21:16] <alacerdaj> Interesting.
[21:16] <Duette> I have been to rituals at public parks in a variety of Northeastern states, and not had problems, although I think part of that is the New England culture of respecting other people by staying out of their business.
[21:17] <Duette> I have heard some scary stories from people living in other parts of the country, though.
[21:18] <alacerdaj> What I first learned about paganism is that there is so many branches.
[21:18] <Duette> Yes, I would agree that there are many branches.
[21:19] <Rovena> I worked in three departments over my career with the City and only one department was I at risk over paganism
[21:19] <alacerdaj> I had to read about many branches and thought ADF closer to me.
[21:19] <Rovena> Definitely there are many branches
[21:20] <Rovena> ADF gives you a range of beliefs so it is easier to feel that you fit in
[21:20] <Duette> Allows for a range of beliefs, at any rate.
[21:21] <Duette> (I already had my beliefs when I found ADF, and they haven't really changed. It was just a good fit.)
[21:21] <alacerdaj> Yes, Rovena. I love this idea about orthopractice (I don't remember how to spell!).
[21:22] <Duette> Orthopraxy. I don't know that word in any other language. :) And yes, I think it can be a unifying concept.
[21:22] <Rovena> Yes it is good. That is why we get along with the U Us so well. We have that idea in common
[21:24] <Duette> The UU principle of "Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part" also means that a lot of Unitarian Universalists tend to value the environment, as many Druids/Neopagans do.
[21:25] <Duette> So we have that in common with them too.
[21:25] <Rovena> Very true
[21:26] <Rovena> When they built the local church they included a grove in the middle of the parking lot which we get to use for ritual
[21:26] <Duette> That's wonderful! I've been to a grove in Massachusetts that has a similar arrangement with their local UU church.
[21:32] <alacerdaj> I am sorry! I had to attend the telephone! :s
[21:32] <Rovena> Many U U churches are very supportive
[21:32] <Rovena> No problem phones have to be answered
[21:32] <alacerdaj> I didn't know the UU principle.
[21:35] <alacerdaj> Wait a moment. Is UU a religion?
[21:35] <Rovena> The U Us are a liberal Christian church
[21:36] <alacerdaj> OK
[21:36] <Rovena> Unitarian Universalist Church
[21:36] <Duette> UU is a religion that some would call a branch of Christianity, although that's not completely accurate because some Unitarian Universalists identify as Buddhist, or Pagan, or other faiths.
[21:37] <Duette> I was part of CUUPS for a few years myself, which is a sub-organization of Unitarian Universalism. CUUPS stands for "The Covenant of Unitarian Universalist Pagans."
[21:39] <Duette> A mainstream UU church service might incorporate readings and songs from a variety of faith traditions, although the overall structure of their church services is somewhat "Christian" in terms of the way it feels.
[21:40] <Duette> I can ramble on a bit sometimes; I hope I'm not going on too much here.
[21:41] <alacerdaj> No. This is new to me.
[21:42] <Rovena> Each congretation is different whith some more Christian than others. A few are a bit conservative. We had visitors from a small coastal congretation who asked me to come speak to their group. It was a Earth Day sermon. I gave them my card which was the first time they knew I was pagan and I never heard from them again
[21:42] <Rovena> Rambling contains a lot of knowledge so it is good
[21:45] <Duette> Oh good. :)
[21:48] <Duette> We were speaking of cats earlier... mine is reminding me that it's his dinner time, so I'm going to be afk for a few minutes.
[21:49] <Rovena> You must feed the cat
[21:51] <Rovena> Hubby is working on the cat palace. It is an indoor/outdoor play area for them
[21:58] <alacerdaj> Another phone call!
[21:59] <alacerdaj> Rovena, what time is it there?
[21:59] <Rovena> 9 pm
[21:59] <alacerdaj> What time does the chat start?
[22:00] <Rovena> 7 PM but people drop in when they can and leave when they need to
[22:01] <alacerdaj> Well, here, now 11 pm, so the chat start 9 pm.
[22:01] <Rovena> People get off work at different times and have to get up at different times
[22:02] <alacerdaj> I intend to come here many times.
[22:02] <Rovena> Glad to have you here especially since it is so much later for you
[22:02] <alacerdaj> But now I need to go.
[22:03] <alacerdaj> Good night.
[22:03] <Rovena> You are always welcome. ENjoy getting your point of view on things
[22:03] <Rovena> Good Night
