[20:05] [Owlhawk] wise [20:07] Then I will write my next article for the Regional newsletter and the opening prayer for World Religion Day this Sunday. [20:14] Hello! [20:15] how is everyone? [20:15] also congrats Rovena :) [20:15] ah yes congrats! [20:16] Thank you, both. [20:18] Do you have any plans for further study? Like the initiates path or clergy program? [20:19] Haven't made any plans yet. Have a good friend who I am going to get advice from on the next step. [20:20] Ah cool :) [20:20] Have a lot going on til mid February so I am not going to get in a hurry [20:20] [Owlhawk] initiate is the path of the self, clergy is the path of the folk. [20:21] We have practically no pagan clergy of any tradition here locally so there is a need. [20:22] [Owlhawk] the two paths are not mutually exclusive. you can,,and many have, do both [20:23] Very true. One must know oneself if one is to serve others effectively [20:23] yeah [20:23] Agreed [20:27] I have just started the DP myself, not too long ago [20:28] [Owlhawk] good for you [20:28] Excellent It is a great for self discovery [20:29] Yes, even though I'm not far into it yet I'm really enjoying the process! [20:29] [Owlhawk] make surre you back up your work in multiple, separate, locations [20:30] That is true. I had a computer and two flash drives dies within 3 months of each other. [20:31] I am keeping them as word docs on my computer and on a private blog. I keep meaning to put the docs onto flashdrives but haven't gotten around to it yet lol [20:31] [Owlhawk] Dropbox is a great storage site [20:32] Thanks for the advice! I really appreciate it:) [20:33] We are always here to help. If we don't know an answer, we probably know someone who does know [20:34] one of these days i will do the DP :-P [20:35] When the time is right, you will. Remember, you can do it bit by bit. No one knows when you start so you can take as long as you need to finish [20:36] Very true. I plan to take things very slow with the DP lol [20:37] [Owlhawk] aside from the time based requirements, it took me about two months to write it up [20:37] The only time sensitive is the celebration of the High Days. They must be consequentive [20:38] [Owlhawk] and the meditation journal of 5 months [20:38] True [20:45] I've already started the meditation journal because of the time requirement as well as the potential difficulty of the process for me personally [20:45] Good place to start. [20:46] Remember the ideas is to record the process, you are not required to be successful though it would be nice [20:47] I tried several methods, not all were successful. [20:51] Ah okay. I feel more comfortable with active meditation (specifically yoga and running) but since this is a learning experience and I'm trying to branch out of my comfort zone a bit, I've been trying to find a still type meditation that works for me. [20:53] [Owlhawk] 4 square breathing is a good place to start. [20:54] Thanks for the advice, Owlhawk [20:55] [Owlhawk] and it's important to remember that anyone can learn to meditatie. it's just a matter of how long it takes. [20:55] Cool. Expanding one's experiences is good. [20:55] Yes, I keep having to remind myself of that lol [20:56] Exactly. And I figured the DP was a good place to start expanding my practices [20:57] And with that, I must say goodnight. Unfortunately I have to get up early for work lol. It was really great to talk to you all and thanks again for all the advice! I really appreciate it! I think twice in the 28 years I have lived here. Ice is more common. [21:06] Ahh ok [21:06] We had a green Christmas this year [21:07] Cool. [21:07] I liked it [21:08] :) [21:09] Took tomorrow off work to help my mom with my uncle... He's kinda house bound. [21:10] Sorry to hear that. I am sure she could use the help. I'm gonna take it back tomorrow morning on the way out got the worm in a plastic zip lock baggie for proof [21:13] I was very dissapointed [21:13] oh I got distracted with work. :( [21:15] Hi [21:15] No problem, most of us multi-task during chat. [21:16] A worm is nt a good thing to find. [21:16] I'm still grossed out [21:16] It was tiny [21:16] I hope they replace my tea [21:16] I basically came here early but missed the whole thing [21:16] oh well [21:16] I still have the receipt [21:17] There are still ppl here! [21:17] I assumed this was the 'aftermath' of sorts already [21:17] yeah, i probably have to get going soon [21:17] not that i talk much to begin with :-P [21:18] :( [21:18] But I just got here! [21:18] Nuts [21:19] Sometimes we get people coming on later from the West coast [21:20] I am not having to sign off as early as I once did since I am semi-retired [21:21] My DP is 29 pages long with my oath rite but without the reflection. I'm doing my oath rite on Sat Feb 6th [21:21] I was reading up on what folks were discussing before and 4-square meditation was mentioned; I've been trying that for the past few week but find that I always get anxious when it's time to hold my breath because I actually have had some breathing complications in the past and all, so I stress over the possibility of being short of breath [21:21] so I wonder whether I should go back to what I always did before, breathing slowly and consciously, no holds [21:22] I'd go back to what was working [21:22] Definitely, if no holds works for you then do that. [21:23] My yoga teacher tells us that our holds should be what works for us. Be that a second or a longer count. [21:24] I can't hold my breath [21:24] yeah... I'm transitioning into breathing in and out fully, paying attention to when it actually stops and NOT counting time [21:24] it's better [21:25] :) [21:25] it seems many traditions do emphasise holding one's breath because apparently it's when consciousness rests the most, so I'm the kind of person that always fears they're missing out [21:26] Anxiety does not improve meditation. [21:27] indeed it doesn't [21:27] although I tend to think perhaps it will improve with time, like physical pain due to sitting in an actually good posture for the first time in ages [21:27] I've always done this solo, so there's plenty of self-doubt [21:28] Understand that. [21:29] Nods [21:31] I have anxiety holding my breath cause I have to do ct scans that you have to hold your breath. It's for my follow up cancer treatment [21:31] Oh sorry to learn [21:32] in my case it's just due to bronchitis and apnea, etc. [21:32] Oh I'm in remission now, but it's always difficult to go back in for the follow ups. [21:32] Understandable [21:34] until a couple of years ago I'd wake up often in the middle of the night, unable to breath for a couple of minutes [21:34] That's awsyo [21:34] Awful [21:35] breath or even talk, so unless I was lucid enough to actually walk I couldn't get any help [21:35] anyway. [21:35] Do you have a cpac machine now? [21:36] no cpap machine yet although I should be starting that soon... It's been a combination of a bit of weight loss and being medicated for anxiety and depression, which indirectly helps a lot with sleep [21:37] Right [21:37] apparently I still stop breathing for short periods of time during the night, but I don't actually lose my breath [21:37] Ohh [21:37] You could get a dog [21:38] across the day I do feel there's something always blocking the way and it's stressful, which is why I think I'll have to resort to a CPAP [21:38] My landlords don't allow for pets, but tell me, in what way do they help? [21:39] If the dog is a registered service animal, the landlord can't refuse though he can require deposits [21:39] *** ErinP (Mibbit@sorcery-i3o.ovu.169.142.IP) has quit IRC [Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client] [21:39] Not sure about the legislation here in Portugal, but that is interesting [21:40] In part I don't blame them because this is a small apartment and it might be unfair for the animal [21:40] *** ErinP (Mibbit@sorcery-i3o.ovu.169.142.IP) has joined #adf [21:40] Sorry, d/c'est [21:40] D/c'ed [21:40] that is alright [21:41] My eyes keep watering [21:41] Might have to go to bed soon. [21:41] Ahh, I forgot that you were in Portugal. Laws definitely could be different. [21:41] oh... too long in front of the screen? [21:42] Yeah... I'm the solitary guy in Portugal [21:42] You're in portuga [21:42] Yes [21:42] Portugal [21:42] Wow [21:42] Way to connect! [21:43] What time is it there? [21:43] 2:43am [21:43] Holy crap! [21:43] Go to bed!! Lol [21:43] But it's nice to meet you! [21:43] I'm still awake because I'm working at the same time... should be fast asleep in order to go to a meeting tomorrow at 10, but that's exactly what I was working on [21:43] I'm the regional Druid of Eastern Canada [21:43] thank you [21:44] Here in Portugal there are several OBOD Druids, many many Wiccans, I gather there are some polytheists attending the Pagan Federation events, but no specific ADF practice [21:44] I live in Ottawa [21:45] I belong to OBOD too but honestly I still find it all hard to navigate, everybody does their thing in little clubs for the elites and newcomers are left wondering where and when things happen [21:45] I live 40 min away from Lisbon [21:46] Cool. [21:46] I work in advertising as a freelancer so everybody complains I should live right in the capital, but besides being chronically broke I am thankful for living in a small village in the countryside. I was born in the Azores Islands actually [21:46] We have a new playboy prime minister... [21:46] Lol [21:47] Ah [21:47] Sounds lovely. [21:47] Lol you should look him up [21:47] I live in the countryside myself [21:47] Cool [21:47] I live in the suburbs [21:48] Trudeau made the news here because of that playboy label, the newspapers sort of ignored everything else including the diversity of the cabinet, etc. [21:48] but journalism is terrible everywhere nowadays, so. [21:48] I think his cabinet is good [21:48] 15 women 15 mec [21:48] M'en [21:48] Yes. Many ethnic backgrounds too [21:49] Ya our défense minister is shy [21:50] Sykh [21:50] The only thing I miss around where I live is an actual forest to go to; the whole landscape is used for crops, especially vineyards, so the closest thing available is a picnic park with some eucalypts [21:50] Sorry can't see if [21:50] It [21:50] That is OK, I got it anyway :) [21:51] Oh and I miss the sea too, being an islander; I'm in a mountain area and don't drive [21:51] Sikh [21:51] yes [21:52] Anyway, awesome that you stayed up to talk to us! [21:52] Thanks... I miss the community [21:52] I can only imagine [21:53] working a Pagan tradition in a South European country is like being in a minority of the minority [21:53] Adf seems to be the in thing here in ottawa. We've got 5 groves with in a 4 hr drive of me [21:54] That's great [21:55] The South is the same way, so few Pagans much less ADF. [21:55] For you guys have Facebook out there? [21:55] We are the only protogrove in Louisiana [21:55] Do* you [21:56] my only contact with other Druids is through Facebook nowadays [21:57] .... Wanna make a new friend [21:57] When I first started out as Pagan, Facebook and the like didn't exist [21:57] ? [21:57] Portuguese people in the tradition are harder to get to because as I mentioned it seems they'd rather keep the club for friends only [21:57] sure [21:57] https://www.facebook.com/fabiomr.barbosa [21:57] My screen name is Erin Danielle [21:57] that's my profile address [21:58] Ok cool gimme a, srx [21:58] Sec. [21:58] sent you an invitation already [21:58] Love the black cat from the cover picture [21:58] in fact I love black cats... or cats in general [21:58] That is my eldest cat, Bootsie. [21:59] Mine is of my old cat middie who passed a few years ago [21:59] I have three black cats and lots of grays. They just show up and decide to stay [21:59] Aww [22:00] I just noticed both of you have cats in your profile pictures [22:00] haha, so we're all cat people [22:00] Lol [22:01] I don't have cats anymore. My ex got them when we separated [22:01] back when I lived at my parents' in the Azores we also did that, cats would just show up and adopt us as their favorite hotel [22:02] Lol [22:02] Exactly. If we can tame them, we get them fixed. [22:02] yes [22:03] when we failed to do that, Nature would teach us a gruesome lesson on self-balance [22:03] cats would bear kittens but few would survive or the excess adult cats would fight each other away [22:04] Aww [22:04] in the end we always had the same number of cats, adult and kittens [22:05] most would stay in the backyard, only two of them became so friendly as to stay indoors; both of them black [22:05] Nature has its ways. [22:05] Yes [22:06] indeed it does [22:06] I wonder if I could send you some lindt chocolate [22:07] Lol [22:07] I swear it's the best in Canada [22:08] Anyway, obviously I digress [22:08] I should head to bed [22:08] I love chocolate, haven't had some in ages [22:09] Good chatting with you guys [22:09] thanks, Erin, same here [22:09] I'll see what I can do [22:09] Good Night Erin [22:09] *** thehouseofthot (Mibbit@sorcery-tj3pd7.dsl.telepac.pt) has quit IRC [Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client] [22:09] Night guys.
