Honestly, i'm just glad to get a chance to chat with some other adf folks! [20:05] Are you new, Star? [20:06] i joined a few months ago [20:06] but this is my first time on the chat [20:06] Ok, cool. That's what i meant. >8) [20:07] Solitary then? [20:07] :) i tend to forget, plus I have book clubs on two tuesdays a month [20:07] unfortunately. [20:09] Hi Rob [20:09] Hi owlhawk [20:09] Most of our weekday grove meetings are in Tuesdays, so thuis is a semi-rare appearance for me. [20:09] thats great to know. so far my DP us going pretty well. I'm used to studying [20:09] Hello Erin [20:09] Hi Rovena [20:09] [Owlhawk] hello [20:10] Owlhawk, I pm'ed you.. [20:11] so, is this just a free for all chat, or do we try to discuss certain topics each week? [20:11] [Owlhawk] usually free for all. [20:11] [Owlhawk] the sunday chats tend to be more topic focused [20:12] *** LisaWM (Mibbit@183347aa.cpe.de729c11.ca.hmsk) has joined #adf [20:12] hello friends [20:12] I didnt realize there was a sunday one too. that will be easier for me to do [20:13] Hi! [20:13] Hello Lisa [20:13] brb [20:13] It is at 2 PM EST [20:13] Hi Lisa [20:13] [Owlhawk] Sunday afternoons at 2 EST I believe. It's the international chat, all are welcome [20:13] [Owlhawk] hello Lisa [20:14] or EDT >8) [20:14] too bad. I teach class at the UU and we tend to keep going until then :) [20:15] It usually lasts two hours [20:15] I might make that then. thanks! [20:16] Not sure how the UUs would manage without its pagans [20:16] My dad's UU congregation is pretty atheist, at least that's what he tells me. [20:17] ours is just now getting a bunch. I teach a spirituality class on a pretty wide range of topics. The chakras is next. [20:17] Im hoping to get a CUUPS going by the end of the year [20:18] [Owlhawk] I'm not sure where the closest UU would be to me. Likely Toronto [20:18] Night folks [20:18] We have one in Whitby; I've presented there twice. [20:18] night [20:18] We didn't form a CUUPs chapter due to the dues [20:18] They don't have a CUUPS though [20:19] i was worship chair for the past year, but got sick of politics, so I started the class. it works much better since I have full autonomy now [20:19] The Ann Arbor one had a CUUPS branch in the early 90s but it folded and I don't think anyone';s tried to restart it. [20:19] *** ErinP (Mibbit@44d72385.dsl.282eb7d8.ca.hmsk) has quit IRC [Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client] [20:20] When they want to teach the children's ed class about Paganism, they just send them to one of our rites. >8) [20:20] I hear ya on that Starflower [20:21] I have a lot of friends that run a CUUPS in memphis. I go to the High Day rits there. The last my fiance even went. first pagan event ever for him! [20:22] Cool! [20:22] hes a gnostic christian. very open minded. goes to my UU also [20:23] back [20:24] there's a local UU where I live but I don't know if they have any pagan people [20:24] Some do and some don't [20:25] They didnt think there were any in mine. Then I stepped up as worship chair and over half the congregation came out as pagan or strongly interested. [20:25] It was a HUGE shock to the older folks! [20:25] Ha! [20:26] Mine has cultivated pagan contacts [20:26] Luckily the newly elected president is very pagan friendly [20:27] this year they were upset that we didnt have a maypole LOL [20:29] awww [20:32] i have been finding pagans here and there where i am [20:33] there's a good deal of "new age" stuff...like Indian women's empowerment circles, and a local Rainbow Tribe [20:33] there's a pagan store i've discovered too...haven't been to it yet, it's a bit of a drive [20:33] I find that you can often make good connections on the community boards at health food stores [20:34] The closest we have to a Pagan store is a Buddhist store that has slightly diversified. >8) [20:34] We don't even have that [20:34] earthbound in the mall is the closest we have. gotta drive 1 1/2 hours for the nearest one and it's mostly an herb shop [20:35] my finace, closest friends and I make a trip to a city with a bunch of stuff a few times a year. we jjust save up our money and go nuts when we get there [20:38] heh [20:42] my wife and i also found a used bookstore nearby, with an "alternate spirituality" section in the back [20:42] i.e. pagan and new age books, basically [20:42] so there is stuff around [20:42] it's a really conservative area here, in many ways, so a lot of people keep it hidden [20:42] Can't remember the last time I bought a book from a "Pagan" section, the ones I want to read are usually in anthropology. [20:43] heh, yeah [20:43] Or classics. [20:43] even barnes & noble has a few, but anthro does tend to have the most good ones. I had to smile at how many books on the DP list I had for classes in college [20:44] That sums up ADF pretty nicely, when you put it like that. >8) [20:45] :) thats why Im so glad i found all of you [20:47] We are glad you did [20:48] I'm really enjoying it. I love the coursework and the people are the friendliest I've found in any group over the past 20 years, and that's saying a lot! [20:51] nice [20:51] yeah i like the ADF community as well [20:51] you guys are nice and grounded and not full of crazy ideas and such [20:51] :-P [20:54] [Owlhawk] I'm not sure about the crazy ideas....I have been looking at Sibley Bell tents recently.... [21:00] it might be cheaper to just drive to their factory, lol [21:01] [Owlhawk] parents have a place in florida, and US shipping is free....so..... Discussin has been do we want a trailer in 5 or 10 years or a tent. if it's a tent, then a Sibley tent is my vote. [21:04] we have a big tent, but it's _too_ big [21:04] [Owlhawk] we have a 10 man dome. it's sufficient. But it won't last forever since it's nylon [21:04] right [21:05] i might borrow a friend's tent, he has an 8' by 7' coleman [21:05] a little small, but it would be free [21:05] [Owlhawk] my thought is I would rather buy one tent for 20 years for the same money instead of 8 or 10 tents over that time [21:05] [Owlhawk] nothing wrong with a big tent [21:06] the big one is too hard for me to set up on my own :) [21:06] [Owlhawk] lol. that's what fellow campers are for! [21:08] [Owlhawk] zthis is the one I'm liking right now.
