[20:01] hi rovena, qwlhawk, rob and sarah [20:01] trying to cook supper [20:01] about to do a happy dance...... :) [20:01] [Owlhawk] oh? [20:01] :P [20:02] [Owlhawk] Little one actually went to, and stayed in, to bed? [20:02] yes!! I'm just getting my works cited together and reviewing my trance 1 submission!! woot! [20:02] lol, no she's still awake [20:02] [Owlhawk] good for you [20:02] Cool! [20:02] LOL! [20:02] Great! [20:02] mine still take a bit to get to bed. [20:02] mine are 12 and 9 [20:03] she at least got a bath tonight so I feel that is a victory! [20:03] mine is 2 [20:03] [Owlhawk] Ummm...doesn't she like water? [20:03] [Owlhawk] I thought she did.... [20:04] LOL! my son loves water and swimming, but tell him to shower and there's an arguement to be had. [20:04] There is a difference between liking water and liking baths [20:04] [Owlhawk] lol [20:04] he's the 12yo [20:04] [Owlhawk] all I have are cats....I don't try to bathe them. [20:05] LOL! why not? it's fun! [20:05] [Owlhawk] I like my limbs where they are thank you. [20:05] she does, it's more if I have the energy to get her into it....because I usually have to chase her around the house a bit first [20:05] [Owlhawk] lol [20:05] [Owlhawk] and she's pretty quick [20:05] I'm with you, Owlhawk. [20:06] my bichon hates water regardless of the source [20:06] I bathe my cat with no problem and he hates baths. [20:07] [Owlhawk] The cats actually belong to the wife. They tolerate me when I open tuna, salmon or sardine cans. [20:07] One time I thought it would be a good idea to put on my swimmsuit and clean him in the shower stall. Hubby held the door closed, but kitty nearly managed to go over the door. [20:08] [Owlhawk] that is one determined kitty [20:08] yep [20:09] hold them by the scruff while washing and no scratches. [20:14] that depends on your definition of happy dancing. lol [20:14] nope! just submitted Trance 1....and that course has been kicking me around a bit here lately [20:15] Congratulation Sara! [20:15] thanks!! [20:15] Anything with a journaling requirement is tough. [20:16] got my first two essays written for DP [20:16] [Owlhawk] well done [20:16] the journaling wasn't so bad as the other parts of that course actually. (a surprise to me really, usually it's the other way around!!!) [20:16] Way to go Kayja [20:16] awesome Kayja! [20:16] As way to save a copy and educate my family, I'm posting them on my blog as I write them. [20:17] Good start Kayja [20:17] [Owlhawk] good luck with the educating part [20:17] Thank you [20:17] My parents are fairly accepting. The in-laws are another story. [20:18] I hear you, there. My inlaws are Southern Baptist [20:18] That's always tough. My older brother's wife is Wiccan and her parents are not happy about it. [20:18] Same here. [20:18] [Owlhawk] my parents still urge me to attend the United Church as it's a good way to get business contacts around town. [20:18] my family thinks I'm weird, and it's ok [20:18] LOL! [20:19] [Owlhawk] Meh, mine thought that 30 years ago [20:19] [Owlhawk] I attend church with the wife when ever she asks me to. That's usually only at xmas eve service. [20:19] I'll be back in a bit y'all....need to go get my girl into bed, [20:19] [Owlhawk] good luck with that [20:19] Well, I've always been weird. They just thought I was christian too. [20:20] I like to go to church on sundays, but I got to a UU church. :-) [20:21] [Owlhawk] I don't correct them on that. They've walked past my altar in the computer room for a couple of years now and still haven't noticed it. Or haven't figured out what it is... and they aren't stupid people. [20:21] Luckily for me, my mom's family is Irish Catholic which is basically the love child of Christianity and Paganism anyway. [20:21] Our U U church is very friendly and helpful [20:21] [Owlhawk] I'm not sure where the nearest UU church would be for me. Toronto most likely [20:21] UUs are the best. :-) [20:22] There are exceptions even in U U but they are the minority [20:22] true [20:22] ran into a couple of them myself [20:23] I still like midnight mass for Christmas. [20:24] Currently I am co-teaching U U Identity with a Taoist [20:24] [Owlhawk] The catholic Christmas Mass I've never been to [20:24] Yeah. I was raised methodist, and I still miss the candlelight service [20:24] Cool, rovena! [20:26] I go to mass with my grandma a couple times a year. It makes her happy. [20:27] I usually do the section on World Religions but they needed a teacher for this section [20:27] Considering how much of the remaining Irish mythology has been colored by the Catholic worldview, I think its helpful in sorting out what's Irish and what's Catholic in the mythology. [20:29] I grew up in an Italian neighborhood so I went to mass many times [20:30] Understanding other religions shows you common threads they share [20:30] yes it does [20:30] I really liked my world religions and comparative religion classes [20:30] I went to a mass, I wanted to find one in Latin, but those are rare [20:31] They are gaining in popularity [20:31] After the Second Vatican Council in the 60s it was decided that the mass would have more meaning in the participants own language. [20:31] I never took a comparative religions class. I always wanted to while in college but history came first. That was my major. [20:31] I know why, I just thought it would be fun to go to a mass in Latin [20:32] It would be interesting. [20:32] I took Greek Civ and Roman Civ, and look where i ended up. [20:32] LOL! [20:32] [Owlhawk] well chosen I think. [20:32] Some find that Latin mass has more of the mystical feel [20:32] I was a religious studies major in community college for a year until it became clear the program was falling apart. A couple of the classes were great though. [20:33] yep. I took as many non-US history classes as I could get my hands on. [20:33] I wonder if its because Latin is an older language or if its because its the language that is used in supernatural thriller shows and movies [20:33] I took a couple really nifty classes on Classical Mythology in my Religious Studies degree, I have a GREAT book from that class.....it spurred on my interest in Dionysus actually [20:34] [Owlhawk] Likely because no one can understand Latin and it's the source for the romance languages [20:34] Brendan, I think it depends on the person [20:34] Just an idle question from my random brain. [20:34] my interest in my goddess of choice, Athena, started in jr high. I devoured all the greek myth books in the library. [20:35] I've been fascinated by ancient history ever since. [20:36] Out of my mom's 4 children, I was the most interested in our Irish heritage so my mom went out of her way to encourage me through the literature, mythology, folklore, and music. [20:36] I loved medieval Britain and WWII. [20:36] That is a good mother [20:36] [Owlhawk] Which leads to WWI and the century leading up to it. [20:37] I got lucky. She's a feisty Irishwoman for sure. [20:37] I really loved the classics and the renaissance period [20:38] I like everything up through the Renaissance. Beyond that I get bored. LOL! [20:38] [Owlhawk] all of it is fasinating. [20:40] brb have to move laundry around. :( [20:40] [Owlhawk] I'm banned from doing laundry. [20:40] lucky you! [20:40] that reminds me, I have a load still in the wash. [20:40] [Owlhawk] something about tye dying.... [20:41] I assume you weren't trying to tye die [20:42] [Owlhawk] Actually I was blamed for my youngest brother's mistake. I've given up trying to correct them and accept that I am not allowed to do laundry...especially my wife's or mother's... [20:44] I sorry you got the blame [20:44] LOL! What a way to get out of a chore. [20:44] [Owlhawk] yup. [20:45] something tells me you didn't try too hard to correct them. :D [20:45] my husband is allergic to cut grass......the mot convenient excuse for getting out of lawn duty ever [20:45] yep [20:45] [Owlhawk] as am I. She fired me from that when I started having to use the puffer while I was cutting the grass. [20:46] I don't dust. It makes me sneeze . . . a lot. [20:46] [Owlhawk] Actually I have tried to correct them...I've given up trying. it's been 20 years and they still don't believe me [20:46] LOL! [20:47] And it is so hot mowing the lawn right now, I want to hire someone else to do it [20:47] [Owlhawk] price you pay for never having snow [20:48] ugh, it's miserable [20:48] We don't have to shovel the wet stuff [20:48] [Owlhawk] Calgary already has snow.... [20:49] [Owlhawk] it does not bode well for our winter! [20:50] One good thing about living in Oklahoma, you only really have to mow in the spring and fall. [20:50] In like a lion and out like a lamb? [20:50] I heard this winter was going to be worse :( [20:50] [Owlhawk] that's march I thought [20:50] Good evening. [20:51] Hello Amber [20:52] yeah there's an article going around on FB that bodes a decent amount of snow all the way into OK and North TX, but it's from a satire site. [20:52] hi amber [20:52] hi Amber [20:53] Hi Amber! [20:53] But I believe we're going to have another cold winter this year. [20:53] Yeah everything I have read says the same thing. Not looking forward to that! [20:53] [Owlhawk] as long as we don't have 20 foot high or worse snow banks again.,... [20:53] Weather predicting is a much undervalued art [20:54] Yikes! [20:55] [Owlhawk] yup. my area made the Huffington Post during the Olympics with it's messages written on snowbanks [20:55] LOL! [20:55] [Owlhawk] two or three counties literally shut down for a month [20:56] That's craziness. And I thought Nebraska was bad enough. [20:58] [Owlhawk] yup. I'm between Lake Huron and Georgian Bay. We measure snow by the foot. USually we get a bit of a melt so it' doesn't pile up like that. last year, no melt. We lost houses last winter. [20:59] [Owlhawk] lots and lots of shoveling there was. [21:00] Shoot, at that point it's shoveling with a tractor! [21:00] [Owlhawk] nah, they sell snowblowers that attach to a tractor up here. [21:02] [Owlhawk] and a lot of pick ups are equipped to attach a plow to the front around here. 10 or 20 bucks and they'll clear the parking spots or drive way. just need to dig the car out first. leave the shell of snow behind and drive out of it after shoveling the front out. [21:03] Sad that the leaves haven't changed color yet and we're already talking about winter. >8) [21:03] [Owlhawk] psychological damage from last winter. and the leaves have started to change here [21:03] Many years we don't get any color change. Hopefully I'll get both done this year. I have two strawberry going right now [22:31] I am soon to try some natural fermenting. We will see how that goes [22:31] Prayers will be offered [22:31] They sound awesome. We made our first batch of mead this year, so I'm excited to start experimenting a bit more now. [22:32] [Owlhawk] the dry mead I oaked in the spring is slightly over oaked, so it's sitting for awhile. [22:32] I just want to get better at the beer brewing, maybe wine wold be nice. I would only make mead for offerings, which isn't a bad idea actually [22:33] [Owlhawk] no it isn't. and you can do 1 gallon batches easily enough [22:33] [Owlhawk] natural fermantation is an interesting area. I'm not sure i'm ready to try it. [22:34] I like one gallon batches, Owlhawk [22:34] [Owlhawk] they are great for working out recipes. [22:34] That's been our plan as well. To make up a full sized batch, and then break it down into 1 gallon buckets to try different recipes. [22:35] [Owlhawk] and for those times when you are given 4 lbs of a varietal honey. [22:35] [Owlhawk] I tend to do 5 gallon batches. It disappears quickly enough. I only brought 3 or so cases home from KG this summer.
