I didn't see an announcement, so I don't know which of the lists got the reminder this week. [20:06] No topic tonight topic. [20:06] I ran out of time to do the annluncement [20:07] is there any topic that e'd like to cover? [20:07] I have a rather quick question. Does the High Day Essay have to have the COoR written out or is it mostly just a gist and review of the ritual? [20:08] And.....I reached out and attended a ritual with my local grove! It was awesome (Which brings me to the question) [20:08] no, don't include the ritual [20:08] just the summary [20:08] just enough to show that you were there [20:08] (except for your oath rite, for that one you must include the ritual) [20:09] what I always did for mine was talk about the earthmother and gatekeeper who were honored, the beings of the occasion, what the omen was, and my general implications of the ritual (what went well, what didn't, if I felt anything special or connectedness, etc.) [20:10] The website tends to show two different criterion, depending on where you're looking, so I wasn't exactly sure but I figured. [20:11] like Lauren said .. only the oath rite needs to be written out. Summaries for the rest are great [20:11] *** rovena (rovena@sorcery-ibta1k.direcpc.com) has quit IRC [Quit: SorceryNet Kiwi WebChat] [20:11] *** rovena (rovena@sorcery-ibta1k.direcpc.com) has joined #adf [20:11] *** Mode change [+o rovena] on #adf by ChanServ [20:11] Basically give enough information so that your reviewer can tell that a) you actually attended and b) it was (or wasn't) a COOR rite [20:12] (since you have to have 4 COOR rites) [20:12] I didn't include the rite just my evaluation of it. the oath itself must be included but not in the word count [20:13] Thank you everyone. That makes it crystal clear now. I appreciate it. [20:14] It was really great to be a part of a ritual where there was some experienced member. [20:15] It's great to get the different experiences [20:15] Group experience is quite different from solitary [20:16] my only group experience (in ADF at least) is as a group leader, which is quite different again [20:16] very [20:16] Lauren, if you get a chance, try to be a participant … I usually lead the rituals, but this time I was a participant, and it was a totally different experience [20:17] also cool to just let it happen and see other people taking the lead [20:17] Unfortunately right now if I don't lead, the rituals don't happen. [20:17] Our protogrove allows any member to host the ritual [20:17] yeah, I know that feeling Lauren [20:17] But I do enjoy getting to just be a participant at the Imbolc retreat [20:17] Rovena .. every High Day we ask for volunteers …. and we have yet to get any [20:18] The GO and I take turns being priest 1 & priest 2 usually, but I have a concussion and didn't feel "there" enough to lead, so we convinced one of the other folks to help him [20:19] a concussion?! are you okay? [20:19] We pretty much divide up the ritual so everyone has a few parts to say. So I'm not performing the whole thing start to finish. I just write it, organize it, coordinate parts, and make sure everything happens. [20:20] Also! Yes! I hope you are on the mend. [20:20] Yes Kia … improving every day. It wasn't a really bad one, but I was pretty spacy for a few days. [20:20] Thanks Lauren [20:20] Lauren, that's sorta similar with what we do .. just convincing people to take the more lead roles can be challenging. [21:09] I found that I had that experience too Matt … I had all this information, but no understanding of where it comes from [21:10] My experience with witchcraft and Wicca is fairly atypical, so I don't expect people to have read or experienced what I did :) It's fine. [21:12] copious notes is the only thing that saves me from that [21:12] *** Rovena is now known as Guest27102 [21:12] discernment is definitely a skill all faiths should learn [21:13] in a christian context, the word "discernment" is actually pretty loaded, and often comes with the baggage of "discerning whether you have a calling into the ministry" [21:13] or other vocational context [21:14] but it is a skill that is taught, at least in some places [21:14] but usually it's done with the expectation that you'll receive a spiritual experience as confirmation of your vocation, rather than as a way to evaluate spiritual experiences [21:17] There's a lot to learn. It's almost terrifying but exhilarating at the same time. [21:17] It is a journey for a lifetime [21:18] learning keeps our brains busy [21:18] it's a good thing :D [21:19] I've been doing this pagan thing for more than 10 years, and relatively speaking, I'm still a baby :) [21:20] We're all on our own version of the path. [21:20] Oh yes [21:20] some of us sort of wander around for a while :) I've called myself "Pagan" for 27 years now … but really only started studying in the last 3 [21:20] On that note though I must call it a night. [21:24] May you find the path as engaging thirty years from now as you do today [21:24] thank you :) [21:25] I expect to be a solitary for a good long while, since I live at least three hours from the nearest grove [21:25] but i'm doing what i can [21:25] Let us know how we can help Kia! Have you checked out the druid moon rituals? [21:26] I was solitary until about 2005 [21:26] the telecast? yes, i watched the last one [21:26] One of the Patheos writers (Thorn) posted today about the "dichotomy" that we set up between solitary and group practice, and it made me think. On one hand, she's right - I do group druid things one night out of seven. that leaves six nights where I'm "solitary" [21:27] Oh I'll have to check that article out [21:27] On the other, having a community like a grove - when it's a functioning community and not just a ritual group - gives a lot more than religious support and knowledge. [21:27] Very true [21:27] and yes Lauren … we are solitary at times, no matter what. Our grove is really just a ritual group. They do meet up during the week, but it's too far for me to travel on weeknights (would take about 60 - 90 mins to get there in time for folks to leave) [21:29] when I was part of a coven, it was about 75 minutes each way to the covenstead, if there wasn't any traffic, and I did that every other week plus high days. [21:29] and it was hugely draining [21:30] that is a LOT of driving [21:30] it's part of why I insist on our rituals being local to most of the group. [21:30] if someone wants to drive to us from the other side of Houston, I'm all for that. [21:30] I'm trying to find time to get a study group started up here .. but I'm not sure if there are enough people here, and it's been challenging to carve out an evening [21:31] but I'm not moving our rituals so they're "more central" because people won't come. [21:31] the time and energy of the organizers matter too … not just of the participants. [21:33] yeah, and that means my core group of 5 [21:33] one of whom actually lives in Galveston!
