Nice warm evening with lovely sunset. Rains are coming but lovely right now. [20:06] I grew up in Michigan so I know about winter in April :-) [20:06] [Owlhawk] given the news coming out of NC, and many other southern states, that's not likely to happen any time soon. We are down in the 40's tonight maybe even 30's I know it's snowed in April around here once every so often. [20:09] Good evening, folks [20:10] Hello Spike [20:10] :) [20:10] And Shirley- so glad to hear that. I read Henry Rollins' column expressing that sentiment. Love his writing. [20:10] hi spike [20:11] It snowed in Lansing a few days ago, so said my stepsister. [20:12] Haven't read Henry Rollins' but will look it up. It is even affecting the local schools. If they implement the bathroom thing, the schools stand to lose federal funding due to discrimination. [20:12] [Owlhawk] and on the Bruce Pennisula. I saww pics [20:12] I definitely recommend it. Gods, that's terrible. [20:13] Forecast for our ritual looks like 60 and probable showers. [20:14] Sorry I have to go. A lovely evening to all of you. [20:14] And you! [20:14] *** Shirley (Mibbit@sorcery-g15.lj7.246.24.IP) has quit IRC [Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client] [20:16] sunday is going to be cold 51 for Beltaine hopefully that changes before sunday :) [20:17] We will have to be inside due to heavy rain is expected [20:17] We're not sure yet what Friday's weather will look like - heavy uncertainty [20:18] they're talking about thunderstorms, but around here that's really vague [20:18] I'll deal with cold over the rains [20:19] though I do hope everyone gets a good weather despite the predictions [20:20] We can cope with showers. [20:21] We had sun showers prior to our own Beltane. Generally fair weather, but cooler than we expected [20:21] sun showers are fun [20:22] Very! One of ours always prays for rain, and he wasn't there this time, so I thought it was sweet [20:22] We won't have to make the call until about half an hour before ritual - the park we meet in has a big gazebo we can use. No fire in the gazebo, but we can at least be "outside". [20:24] Oh how I'd love a site where we could go indoors if we needed to. [20:24] We have ours at our local UU church. So in our local grove they do potluck after a ritual is it a common procedure for rituals? [20:24] Ours always does. [20:24] Ours does. We meet at the local U U as well' [20:25] Our local UU church is way too expensive, but they are sending their youth group to our rite this weekend. [20:25] We have a nice tree grove with fire pit. [20:25] Since I am a U U member we don't get charged anything [20:26] Yeah, we don't have any of those. >8) [20:26] We don't potluck, because I tried that once and it was a mess (too many people with food allergies, people not showing up, other people showing up without food) [20:26] I love the back garden area behind the church that's where we have ritual in good weather. sending youths is a good thing [20:26] So instead we go to a local restaurant and eat dinner after ritual. [20:26] They did offer the non-profit rate, but that's still more than double what the Friends charge us. This is something I am striving towards. [20:30] Any members who don't use FB? [20:30] 'Cause we have a bunch. >8) [20:30] I have members who refuse to use email, and other members who refuse to use FB. So I have to do both. [20:31] that does make it harder [20:31] That's what I'm stuck doing as well. [20:31] And then I have a website that has to get the meetings updated to it, plus WitchVox postings for high days. [20:31] So coordinating who brings what either passes entirely through me or (more often) doesn't happen. [20:31] and you couldn't ask at the end of the ritual before hand because sometimes it's a few weeks and it's hard to know too far in advance [20:32] lol. yeah no. we have too many passers-through [20:32] we regularly have new people who show up once [20:33] only once? that happens with the local college students coming because they have a religion classes [20:33] These definitely aren't college kids. [20:33] I have a core group of 6-8, and then randoms. [20:33] Sometimes up to 5 of them. [20:33] Plenty of people try out one of our rituals and decide we're not for them. That's not a bad thing. [20:34] And some people only come to one ritual per year, but do it for twenty years. >8) [20:34] We have one person who comes to every Beltaine and nothing else. [20:34] do you find that it's distance issues rob? [20:34] The only ones that bug me are the ones on their phones the whole ritual >.< [20:35] Distance has been an issue for the last fifteen years. Most of our paid members live at least 45 minutes drive from Ann Arbor. [20:35] We ask that people put their phones on vibrate and step out if they have an important call. [20:35] ouch that's a bit of a distance [20:35] They come to rituals and coffee socials but never to planning meetings or anything else. [20:35] Yeah - we have the distance issue too, I think. We're 45 minute from Galveston and 45 minutes from downtown Houston (and 2 hours from the other side of town) [20:35] I have to work with the Grove I havem not the Grove I wish I had! [20:36] Oops, I forgot I was still logged in... it's interesting to hear everyone elses' facilitating issues, I run into these all the time [20:36] It's really a shame to have to go to a local restaurant instead of congregating for pot luck afterward. I suppose our grove is lucky in that regard [20:36] wow we just joined our local grove literally it's 8 minute drive for open ritual the rest is about 28 minutes or so out [20:37] most of our people are an hour at least away [20:37] Houston is HUUUUUUUUGE. [20:37] asis tampa [20:37] I'm such a small town person huge scares me lol [20:37] I wish I could make pot luck work, Spike. :/ I miss it - it was fun.
