[20:03] It is cold here and overtime is a bitch but I like the cash [20:03] [Owlhawk] is it snowing? [20:04] Nope we rarely get snow [20:04] Usually we get ice but none of that so far [20:04] [Owlhawk] then your weather is nicer then mine this week [20:05] We are usually milder than you We are 40 degrees lower than average [20:05] [Owlhawk] ouch [20:06] [Owlhawk] I knew there was a continent wide cold snap, but that is way worse then I thought [20:06] *** rmagill (Mibbit@14055aee.15.179.131.res-cmts.tv2.6ca6e16b.net.hmsk) has joined #ADF [20:07] hello rmagill [20:07] Hi [20:07] how are you? [20:07] chilly but fine [20:08] I hear you on that. So, this is my first time here. What can I expect? [20:08] anything and ecerything [20:08] especially typos [20:09] lol, fair enough. I am sure I will have plenty of typos myself. [20:09] [Owlhawk] The same thing as every night Pinky... [20:09] Sometimes we have lots of people and other times just a few [20:09] Ok. Does there tend to be one theme or does the discussion meander? [20:10] We tried themes but it was like herding cats so we just free form it [20:10] fair enough [20:10] [Owlhawk] herding cats is easy, as long as you have multiple cans of tuna a a lot of people to hold the cans... [20:11] [Owlhawk] "D [20:11] [Owlhawk] :D [20:11] Not all cats like tuna I learned that the hard way [20:12] [Owlhawk] Wow. all of the wife's furry nether world denizons love the stuff [20:12] lol, so it is [20:14] So, I am pretty new to neo-Paganism and Druidry. I am working through the DP, but I have a few questions about ADF, mostly around clarifying several things. Would this be a good time/place for these questions? [20:14] Excellent place [20:14] [Owlhawk] yes it would [20:15] *** ErinP (Mibbit@36921445.dsl.282eb7d8.ca.hmsk) has joined #ADF [20:15] Hello Erin [20:15] Hello! [20:15] Fair enough. I guess the first question is that I noticed that the Sphere is protection is listed as not having a place in ADF rituals, but it is listed in several of the guilds/other study programs. [20:15] quiet night? [20:15] so far [20:16] hi rmagill [20:16] [Owlhawk] shpere if protection? [20:16] hi rovena [20:16] you mean grounding and centering? [20:16] [Owlhawk] do you mean casting a circle>? [20:16] hi owlhawk [20:16] [Owlhawk] hello [20:16] Public ritual doesn't cast circle which a sphere is [20:16] [Owlhawk] blondies says hello [20:16] hi hi! [20:17] Guild and study programs are about private practice [20:18] *** LisaWM (Mibbit@6ca5ecdf.14055a36.184.175.imsk) has joined #ADF [20:18] [Owlhawk] casting a circle involves invoking a protective and confining energy barrier. Public worship/ritual is about being open and welcoming. [20:18] ok. So the guidelines for public ritual are limited to that context, and not for private practice as well? [20:18] i got my yule present today from my mom [20:18] :) [20:18] [Owlhawk] I can't think of any study programs that involve casting a circle [20:18] [Owlhawk] how is she? [20:18] i didnt yhink adf did circles [20:19] [Owlhawk] Circle casting is a hold over withing Wicca from Ceremonial Magic. [20:19] I saw it here: http://miburl.com/faNkcN , but the link it leads to doesn't work [20:19] ADF does not tell you what you can and can't do in your personal practice. It only regulates public ritual [20:19] she was throwing up yesterday morning, but shes better today. [20:19] Ok, thanks! [20:20] Hello Lisa [20:20] [Owlhawk] that link isn't working for e [20:20] its day by day right now. [20:20] Erin, I am glad she's feeling better [20:20] [Owlhawk] That's good to here [20:20] Hey Rovena and friends :) [20:20] https://www.adf.org/members/guilds/magicians/1st-circle-study-program.html [20:20] thanks guys [20:20] Hi Lisa [20:20] hi lisa [20:21] [Owlhawk] is there a specific spot ono that page to make finding the reference easier? [20:21] anyway, mom bought us hand made mukluks, and i wss in desperate need of new boots, so mom gave me my new mukluks early [20:22] That was nice and timely [20:22] its listed shortly under: M.1.8.3 Magic Practice I [20:22] nice! [20:22] they're beatiful. black with beading on top with fur lined [20:23] *beautiful [20:24] [Owlhawk] I don't see anything there about casting Circles [20:25] [Owlhawk] They sound nice Erin [20:25] mom has been making up for being so ill lately [20:25] It's listed at "Sphere of Protection" [20:26] The link is broken. Probably due to the move to the new servers [20:26] she even got me bagels for my breakfast and apples for the desert im bringing to a couple of pot luck parties im going to :) [20:26] Nice. Pot lucks for the holidays? [20:27] [Owlhawk] it looks like it's down. Best thing to do is to join the Magcians email list and ask there. [20:28] yes. lake of oaks is having a pot luck lunch on the 6th, and theres a yule party im going ro that night too... so baked apples it is! [20:28] Ok, thanks! It was also helpful asking hear to clarify the distinction between public and private practice. thanks for the help! [20:28] [Owlhawk] no problem [20:28] sounds fun [20:29] oh lisa, we're going over our bylaws on sat night. [20:30] That's cool. I should upload the newest version of ours. [20:30] i printed up thornhaven's, lake of oaks', dancing lights, 3 cranes and another groves' bylaws to help us out [20:31] The ones on the ADF site/our website are out of date now, and the new version (3.0 lol) is substantially different. [20:31] just curious, what group is this? [20:31] I'm from Dancing Lights. [20:31] im hoping that by ratifying the bylaws we'll resolve our membership problem without incident [20:31] im from red maple grove [20:32] The chat is open to everyone and we tend to get all sorts of side conversations [20:32] membership problem? [20:32] our "dont be a dick" clause is very wishy washy [20:32] as seems to normally happen in this context... [20:32] [Owlhawk] when in doubt, blame such things on the Ferryman [20:33] [Owlhawk] "D [20:33] [Owlhawk] :D [20:33] Or Doby [20:33] lol [20:33] lol [20:33] ya well, its proving difficult [20:34] What problem are you having, may I ask? [20:34] [Owlhawk] The Ferryman is a colourful character in the Ontario Pagan community. he is infamous [20:34] How cool, Owlhawk [20:35] thing is, the person in question seems to be gwtting better in the public eye, but shes still stalking one of our members [20:35] Not cool [20:35] and nothing in the bylaws as they stand allow for some sort of intervention? I sure hope that combination of flavors works out :) [21:52] Sounds good [21:53] We had somebody else’s mead with those same flavors….but I think we may have over did the oak. [21:56] night everyone [21:56] Goodnight Erin [21:56] Night Erin [21:56] Night, Erin [21:56] tt [21:57] ttyl [21:57] *** ErinP (Mibbit@36921445.dsl.282eb7d8.ca.hmsk) has quit IRC [Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client] [21:57] have a good night, Erin [21:57] I need to leave too. 10 hr work days call for some sleep [21:57] Last one out lock up [21:57] Good night, Rovena [21:58] lol night Rovena [21:58] Good night [21:58] [Owlhawk] good night Erin [21:58] [Owlhawk] and rovnna [21:59] night here too...shower time <3 much love [21:59] *** ADF_Bonnie (IceChat77@6a8c81d5.dhcp.oxfr.ma.4e125616.com.hmsk) has quit IRC [Quit: I cna ytpe 300 wrods pre mniuet!!!] [22:00] goodnight Bonnie [22:00] [Owlhawk] Oak is a flavour you need to be careful with. it's aeasy to over Oak. My dry mead is over oaked by about a week and it will take time to age out. I suggest tasting it daily and racking the same day it hits the flavour yhou want [22:00] Hmm, good advice to remember [22:01] [Owlhawk] yeah, I screwed up with it. my mentor gave me that advice [22:01] We put the oak in at the beginning of fermentation and its been a month….oops. [22:02] [Owlhawk] age and additional honey can fix most everything [22:02] Like fruits, we were going to keep it in during the first fermentation, which I think is about 3 months. Not sure, I’m not the mead guy. [22:02] *** Rovena (Mibbit@14055b31.6ca5ec7e.174.33.imsk) has quit IRC [Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client] [22:02] [Owlhawk] I really need to start the promegranate mead for wellsprings... [22:03] That sounds yummy [22:03] [Owlhawk] I wouldn't. but it might work. never tried it that way. I added it to Fermentation [22:03] [Owlhawk] Jan asked for it at the symposisum last year and got a lot of seconds.... [22:04] I’ll ask our brewer to have sample it and see what it’s like. Thanks for the advice. [22:04] [Owlhawk] any time [22:05] [Owlhawk] I mean I added it to secdondary...not fermentatino [22:05] [Owlhawk] I might have left starting it too late through so it might end up being for next years wellspring [22:06] We boiled up the oak chips, dumped the water they were boild in and added the chips into our fermentation vessel. The raw oak was very remminicent of Irish whisky. [22:06] [Owlhawk] I would really like to try that one....sounds intriguing. [22:09] [Owlhawk] I might have used the water they were boiled in and not added the actual chips. [22:09] [Owlhawk] that would be interesting. [22:10] Well, folks, I have to vanish. Thank you everyone for participating and thank for the warming mead thoughts :) [22:10] [Owlhawk] good night Drum [22:10] Night [22:10] Night! [22:11] [Owlhawk] lol. do 1 gallon batches. 3lbs to 4 lbs per gallon works well [22:12] [Owlhawk] expect 4 to 5 bottles per batch [22:13] I think we were at about 15 pounds of honey for the batch. [22:13] [Owlhawk] that's about what i use for a 5 gallon melomel [22:13] If there is too much oak, we could always use for a blended mead :D [22:13] [Owlhawk] true [22:14] Well, we're off to bed too -- night all [22:14] [Owlhawk] good night [22:14] Good night [22:14] *** LisaWM (Mibbit@14055a5a.6ca5f09b.108.175.imsk) has quit IRC [Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client] [22:17] I’m waiting to make a blueberry lemmon mead. [22:17] [Owlhawk] why that combo? [22:17] Those flavors work well in italian soda and on crepes. [22:17] [Owlhawk] you'll need to be careful withthe ph levels [22:17] and in smirnof’s blueberry lemmon vodka drink. [22:18] I think Nick was going to use zest for the lemmon flavor [22:18] [Owlhawk] ok. [22:18] Something was mentioned about lemmon juice added early seemed to loose its flavor. Not sure about that. [22:19] [Owlhawk] a bit of it in a blueberry helps the colour to stay. [22:19] I apparently can’t spell ‘lemon’ tonight either. [22:20] [Owlhawk] lol [22:22] Time to head out and finish some emails that been languishing. Have a good night, and thanks again for the mead talk. [22:22] [Owlhawk] anytijme. good night [22:23] *** Dale_ (guest@da0a743d.new.res.14056255.com.hmsk) has quit IRC [Quit: Dale_] [22:27] *** Chief_Nathan (androirc@14055a5a.6ca5f09b.108.175.imsk) has quit IRC [Quit: AndroIRC - Android IRC Client ( http://www.androirc.com )] *** Closed channel log for #ADF at 18/11/2014 10:27:58 PM
