Leader Bio: Sharon “Dragynphyre” Gorbacz

In autumn of 1997, I had just landed my first "real" job, and my life was going well. I decided that I wanted to thank some higher power for my great fortune. The monotheistic religion of my parents did not provide the spiritual experience that I was hungering for. After a year's worth of exhaustive research into a number of faiths, none quite fitting, I keyed in on the word "Druid." I read about OBOD, Keltria, RDNA, and ADF. It was what I read on ADF's website that really struck a chord. Here was an organization whose basic tenets fit my personal beliefs. Polytheism made a lot of sense to me, and the ritual structure was similar to the one I grew up with. After meeting with some ADF members across Central and Southern New Jersey, I became a member of ADF in November 1998.

Since that time, I held a number of elected roles during my time with Grove of the Midnight Sun. I also served a year as Scribe of the Slavic Kin. It is my great honor to have been the North East Regional Druid since the election in May 2009. I was re-elected to a second term in May 2011.

Most positions in ADF are volunteer positions, and I am proud to donate my time and resources to developing the organization. I am quite active in the spiritual side of ADF as well, though perhaps not one of the most pious members (I still have not yet officially completed the Dedicant's Program!), and I do not currently feel the call to become ordained clergy. However, I feel that an organization such as ADF needs both secular and spiritual leadership. "Rooted deep, crowned high" – a tree is only as large above ground as it is below, else it uproots in a storm. The ADF oak logo portrays the organization as having strong roots, and I intend to continue working toward keeping them strong, so that ADF can weather any storm.
